i bought my shihtzu at section 14 pj petshop on 2 march .when i bought that time- they have good sales man talk. and they said that my shihtzu is small breed- its 2 mths old, vacc 23 feb.( the sales board mentioned 2 mths +)

well, i've been asking them my pup date of birth- and i goy fr them today that timmy' date of birth- another sales guy told me he checked w mka that my timmy is born 1 feb.....

i was shocked that they sold a 1 mth old shih tzu to me and they said it was 2 mths!!! as a breeder is not responsible cos they sell the pup at 1 mth old oni? then it will be a risk for us who bought them back- 1 mth old pup will be easier to get infected or sick!!!??

i have no regret to have timmy w me no matter how many mths, but i learnt a lesson- pls if u guys buy any puppy in that shop- pls ask them the actual mth of the pup- it can be less 2-3 weeks different but not 1 mth!! its a risk to buy such young pup, its not to the puppy to leave their parent so early too.

luckily timmy is healthy boy . if not..i'm going to boycott them forever...

hi,
just a sharing, don't buy a puppy from pet shops as many Thailand dogs were imported and those are NOT healthy. 2ndlt, they may be come from poor breeder and unknown source, inbreed...etc.
Also, not all breeders are good. Like what I bought my Trivor from, he is a lousy breeder. Trivor wasn't healthy when we 1st brought her home, she was easily fall sick, diarrhea, vomit...etc I suspected the breeder did not do a good job to take good care on the pregnant mum.
well, Trivor is good now Laugh

so, be extra careful when choosing pet shop and breeder. Good luck! go visit them several times if they still telling you the same thing.

thansk trivor. i learnt a lessson. i wont be going back there for any business- except get back timmy mka cert. thats all i'm going to end w them.they never think of maintain long term r;ship w their customers or new customers- is their biggest lost !

when i brought timmy back, he was having flu too. went to see vet- he is okie now but seems has sinus on and off. guess i'm going to brg himt to see the vet again

Hello Timmy,
visit the breeder several time. Ask them a few std questions and make note. Visit them again several days later, ask them same questions, see if they are same answers. Do this several times, then you will know who is honest and who's culprit. standard questions like: How old is the puppy? whose the parents (try to memorise them)? how many did her mother gave birth one time (the less (3-4), the worse meaning overbred)? How's the parents' health history and surviving rate of puppies? How many times per year the mother/ stud mate (the lesser, the healthier puppies are).
Some breeders may show doubt about what you've asked, they are not a good breeder. Do some researches and don't 4 get to observe the puppies too. Healthy puppies looks active (not aggressive) and no discharge from nose and eyes. See their ears discharge & feces too, check fleas and ticks spot... alot lahhh
Hope I am not long winded. Just wanna pass some tips to others when choosing new puppies after I have learnt some mistakes. No harm to spent some time, never rush into it!!

The questions u mentioned are really useful indeed. Luckily my MS was a healthy girl when I bought her from a pet shop in PJ. But I had a Shih Tze before in Chee Cheong Kai. The pet shop cheated me & the puppy was sprayed..Oh..poor doggy.. Unsure

thanks lot trivor! i believe if i ask them such questions, they can't answer me or give me fake info.

their salesppl left the company- so no one is responsible to the sales they made everytime fr diff salesman. so now i go to my frend's petshop instead- his family taking care of it. so i wont be cheated fr those sweet talk young salesman which left the co so fast...

I've done many research myself before purchasing Cookie. The more questions u ask the breeder the better it is. As Trivor wrote,asking the breeder about the parents is very important as it might reflect many things about the litter such as their temperament and health condition. Do not buy from a breeder who r reluctant or do not know how to answer your questions.A good breeder will want their pups to have a good home as well,so they will happily answer your questions knowing that u r serious about getting a pup.

Ps:some good breeders will not simply sell their pups to anyone.They might also test u or evaluate u during conversations.

Oh yeah...Some of the pups that r sold at pet shops might be those leftovers or unhealthy pups that breeders don't want.

I walked into the petshop in Petaling St (that was b4 I found this forum!) and I was looking at this black and white shih tzu at the shop. Why i picked it up was bcos I tot black and white was rather uncommon for a shih tzu. But I noticed that particular pup being a lot small than the lot. So I told the guy there that the pup might not be healthy.

He actually replied saying that his colour (being the only black and white of the whole litter) and his size (his tinier size compared to his puppylings), was what made him better than the rest of the litter!

hi there !
I bought my furkid through the staronline ads and i called up this so called breeder in kl. i need to ask my friend to go to his place and see the dog. i did not manage to see the dog as i was living in penang. after my friend has make the payment and get the dog (my furkid is 11 months old when i bought it) . my friend also did not check carefully on the dog. When i first saw my furkid, although he was cute, he was really in a bad condition. He has fleas all over the feet and this breeder told me that he already cleared all the things and even bath him before hand it to me. My friend and i need to get rid of all the fleas on the feet and oh..gosh....the fleas was really big in size. Then another thing is the eyes that really worried me. he can't seem to see well and always knock himself on the wall. i call up and ask the breeder again on the dog condition. He told me that my furkid is like since he was small. and that time i thought maybe it was a natural thing that happens to my furkid until i brought it to the vet and told me that my furkid eyes is in this condition because there are no certain care for the eyes and scratches on the eye make them see unclear. Right now my furkid is better as i daily apply cream and i see a lot of improvement here. If not mistaken, the breeder is still publishing ads on certain dogs in staronline ads with the name of Ravin. He is from Klang. Becareful of this person because my friend also bought a dog from him and also make payment to him. When my friend went to pickup the dog, the dog was too hyperactive that my friend want to have the money return. The breeder refused to return the money and ask my friend to take other dog. My friend refused and the breeder have no choice and promise my friend he will return the money. But until today, my friend not yet received any money and tried to call him several times and refuse to pickup the phone until my friend send a message that he will call up the police if he still refuse to return the money. Really upset to encounter this kind of people who is cheating around. Learn a lesson here anyway.. But this is how i get my Cocoa, my furkid. He was a nice one though although he has all this sickness. In other word, dunno want to thanks this breeder for having Cocoa or blame him for cheating me.

hi jan! thanks for telling us about it. we should be more cautious especially those who look for new pup thru newspaper. by the way, u bought cocoa 11 mths? is the guy sold those dog given up fr others? then he resell to u ? if so, this ppl normally buy those dogs with hyperactive prob/ health prob, then they bought it very cheap price- then resell it.

i know how u feel when being cheated..and glad u have cocoa even the breeder didnt do his part as u alredy have strong r'ship w your cocoa. so u should be proud of urself that u made cocoa become stronger now!! Sly

Heloo....

This Indian guy is not a breeder. He just involve in the trade of buying and selling of dogs. His dogs are of poor quality as most ppl that sell their dogs to him have difficulties to cope with their hyperactiveness or sickness.

My friend also went to look at the same dog as your Penang's fren (I know how lar) but decided not to purchase it due to his hyperactiveness.

Anyway, I'll always advice ppl whenever they wanna buy a dog, plssss view the dog personally. Observe the puppy carefully, if possible look at the dam and sire too before you decide to purchase it.

Hi Timmy ! I bought my furkid, Cocoa when he was already 11 months. Now, he is 1 year & 3 months. To what i know, this guy get this dog from others who wants to buy his big dogs. If not mistaken he breed big dogs. People trade in the dog for another dog. One more thing is that he advertisement the ad by the so called Shih Tzu breed. after buying it, he told me the breed was Lhasa Apso mix with Maltese. I already bought it so can't do anything. Anyway, he is a nice dog and i like the colour which is hardly can be find. The look of Cocoa was like Shih Tzu. But the vet told me that the mouth look like Maltese and the size and the look was like a lhasa apso. They told me that it was hard to find lhasa apso breed in malaysia. They are really a nice watchdog. they alert you when people is coming in the house. You know what, the funniest thing is when he was doing his business. he need to sniff all over the place to find a good spot to do his business. when he get the spot, he will turn in circle for a few times before he started to do his business. I can know when he want to pee and shit. Before he pee, he will sniff first, quite long also. The good thing is that he never do his business in the cage. Normally i will put him in the cage when we are not around. I think a few days back, i was so surprised that he could open the cage and freed himself. he knows the way to push up the stick that closed up the cage. i think i need a padlock to lock it.hehehehe...he is going to move to a new place soon in an apartment, where my bf and me planned not to cage him anymore. so he can go freely. it's not that good to cage them. but since he was too active and will roam around the house. so better cage up so that big dogs won't bite him. We are having a big stray dog outside the house. So quite hard to free him right now. Anyway, nice knowing you here...

hey jan, my timmy also love turn many rounds b4 he did his business. now he know hot to pee n poo on newspaper at a corner in my room. sometimes still have accident.

do u have ur furkid photo? maybe u can attach here and let us have a look how ur mix furkid look like?

your apartment allow to keep pet?

I think we should alert people on this things. if not many will get cheated. Nothing could be done once you bought it.
Anyway, i'm finding another female shih tzu for Cocoa. I'm looking for adoption here for pug, shih tzu, maltese & lhasa apso. Pls do alert me if anyone wants to gives their dogs for adoption. If no, i would have to find from pet shops. Still looking for the right dog. Thanks for info on this breeder.

Hi Timmy! Wow...your reply was so fast...you online always? for me, i do. online from 9am to 5.30pm. working time actually. i don't have my furkid photo right now. Planning to take photos but his fur is still pretty messy right now. As the previous guy, cut my furkid fur until so short that i trim it myself so that it won;t look that awful. His fur right now quite okay that the first time i saw him. His fur is softer than last time. i just change to a new shampoo from the vet. gives him enough dietary supplement for the skin and fur. It look shining now. Okay, once i get the photo i will attach here. Anyway, my furkid look like Shih Tzu. If i don't mentioned the breed, everyone thinks that he is a Shih Tzu. Right now my furkid is living with my bf in a semi-d house. so have space for him to walk around especially the garden where he normally do his business. later my bf need to move into apartment and my furkid will follow him also. I'm living in a flat right now. my family member won't allow any pets at home so i have to keep my pets all in my bf's house. My neighbour also have one female shih tzu at home. But they never really barks all the time. so no one complaint. I think staying in apartments can keep dogs but make sure that they don't make noise and dirty the place, if not your neighbour will complain. i think there should be no problems since my furkid only make noise when he sense strangers, want to pee and hungry. Anyway, i will try my best to take photos on him.

Dear all,

I've been reading the msg post in the forum and it reminded me on the experience last sunday. In Sabah,we don't have dog shelter such as west m'sia and info on dogs are scarce to come by. I love to go to Gaya street where there's this breeder who sales puppies every sunday. Sometimes they sells this really cute mix-breed. I bought one the breeder said german-sherpard but she looks like collie-mix. I knew it but I feel sorry for the pup, she looks healthy, no skin problem but got tick all over. I bought her home. She's quite hyperactive but she's ok coz she's obedient and lovable, besides my mom loves her.

This seller is not a good breeder but, my conscience told me to give the puppy a good home. That's all that matters.

In a way, your advice open my eyes to watch for irresponsible breeder. will past this good advice to friends. Thanks.

woww Jan,
Don't ever rely on people to buy a dog for you.
Do you know the phrase "let puppy chooses you" is the key to find a dog? You should visit the breeder/ pet shop yourself, see which one you like and which likes you.
I chose Trivor amongst other 4 goldies because she ran around me and welcome over me. I know this is "the one", as we like both at 1st sight. U know, the feeling must be there lahhh~
anyway, be extra careful next time. Do more research on breeders too. Not all are saint Wink

Hi!!

I think it's hard for your to find someone that wanna give away their purebreed dogs for adoption. Sometimes the animal shelter do have pedigree for adoption but again it's so inconvenient for you unless u wanna travel to KL just to look at the dog.

Why don't you get someone to recommend a reliable breeder to you rather than trying your luck at the petshops?

Good to know that your furkid is ok.

BTW,never buy from a petshop.As i've mentioned before,they might be leftovers or unhealthy pups plus u will never know who their parents r.Trivor is rite,let the puppy choose u instead of u choosing them.My breeder once told me.They will never sell a pup to a person who instantly fall in love with their pups and want it straight away.She said those ppl only buy them because of how they look,most of them will not think about the responsibilities of being an owner(It's not easy to be good owner).What if u've choosen a pup that doesn't like u.

My turn to tell story.Before i got cookie,i was called by the breeder to look at another shih tzu that they had(not their own pup,coz i want a cheaper pup).The pup barked at me everytime he sees me.I was so dissapointed.But then my gf spotted another pup at the corner in a paper box and she asked me to come over.Cookie(breeder's pup) was in the paper box jumping with joy when he saw me.I wanted to hug him straight away but breeder don't allow(i know it's love at first sight,but i've been visiting the breeder for so many times they know i am serious about getting a pup).Cookie chose me to be his owner.All i had to do was just pay the deposit.LOL

There is one way i found out recently where u can contact lots of breeders at one go.Go to a Dog show/Competition. I went to MIPE 2003 and met alot of breeders over there(Not those ppl selling dogs at the corner).Those breeders are competition participants.U'll just have to approach them to ask if they breed dogs and a name card.U can choose which breeder u like plus u'll be able to meet the sire/dam of the pups(they will be there for the competition).They r all friendly ppl. Laugh

hi adam, i went to the mipe show. saw most competition r lab, gr, and others but i didnt see any shih tzu . maybe i miss the part. u mean u got the breeder info fr those w shih tzu pup on show that day?

also you need to check their eyes make sure is red and wax not dull and dirty....and also try to look at the sire and dam....just add some information for those who plan to get a puppy
