        Shih Tzu Show Top Knot

Make sure the hair on head and face is completely dry. With parting comb, part off the section in front from the outer edge of each eye and not very far back.



Gently tease this section.



Slowly smooth the front section straight up using a parting comb.



I then attach a band about 3/4 inch above the top of the scalp. Wrap band two to three times around the topknot.



This is the critical step. Gently grab 8-10 hairs from the middle of the scalp firmly. This creates a lovely poof. Using your comb, smooth any wispies. Us the rat-tail to pull out the front of the topknot if you want more poof.





Next I use Sticky Ticky to paste up any stray hairs. After the hair dries, I attach the bow.





Then I part the back section. if the dog's head is small or sparse in topknot, I part back quite far. I generally round off the back section.



I band the back in the same manner as the front, but when I pull the middle hairs, I pull them toward the front of the head.



Attaching the front topknot to the back depends on the length and volume of hair. On a puppy, I don't attach them. On a medium weight topknot, I connect the back half of the front topknot to the front half of the back topknot with a band.





I then use a small curling iron and curl the entire topknot in small sections. Let the curls cool off, then gently comb through and tease. Comb carefully over the top to shape. Depending on who's judging, I use a small amount of light hairspray to keep in place.



With careful practice, you'll end up with a beautiful, secure topknot like this.

awww Esther...you mean the way I dun it, is wrong??? (check pic)...hahaha I reckon a couple of annies hair ties around Teebo's ears look nearly the same......Teebo has one clear eye...but it looks alittle blue and one normal brown eye...so I reckon we can never show him off with the poncey fluffy ones anyway...also I keep Teebo fairly close cropped on his back and let him grow out his fur on lower quaters so he retains alittle bit of a tzu look...he's a kiwi dog anyway...his favorite toys are a sqeaky plastic beer can and a fluffy sqeaky rugby ball...an' it's too hot over here for kiwis (an fluffy tuz's) I reckon so close cropped it will remain.

Hey...thanks for the "no-give" food list...I didnt relise corn was a problem.

There's no right or wrong way to tie a shih tzus hair lah! Hahahahaha! The picture was to share with everyone on how to tie a (ONE OF THE MANY) showdog's topknot. There are other fashions and it's up to you to do your furry son/daughter how you want it mah... Sometimes, I even clip BB's hair with my butterfly clips! Hahahahaha!

I tried the showdog topknot on BB and he looked mighty royal. Perhaps you might wanna try it together. Oh, Graeme, there's no race or gender discrimination in shih tzus lah! So what if he's Kiwi? BB's Malaysian and his father is Singaporean, but look where he ended up??!! BB, my son, ended up in my room lah... Tongue Hahahahaha!

I think eye pigmentation in shih tzus are acceptable. BB has slight green pigmentation as well, but that's alright. Teebo can still go for show if you want him to and if other characteristics are of show quality. BB is qualified but I don't think I can cos I didn't train him stict enough. Showdogs should not be playful, but I'd rather have a playful puppy than one that has countless ribbons... Pirate Tough choice, huh? You have the same choice too...

I think you and Annie would love to keep Teebo as a long hair... Wink

ps. I only researched info and impart what I found. Most of the things I have posted here are credited to the person who wrote it. The poisonous list of food was thanks to BB's breeder, Rose.

No lah... Me, no, I am not a shih foo or guru or master. I am just the very proud mommy of BB (HE is a BOI! Tongue)... Last weekend, BB went to Rose's place. She gushed disbelievingly about his handsome good looks! Tongue Me very proud lah! My son is leng chai and also a perfect little BabyBoi... Awww.... Spent such a long time checking info on HG & Interceptor. Found out that some dogs are allergic to one ingredient in HG that results in diarrhea & vomitting. In serious cases, can actually die from it. Thank goodness I stopped persisting & Faith only vomitted. Anyway, have to wait till Friday to bring Faith back to my vet (he's on leave till then) to discuss Interceptor as option. Don't want a stand-in vet to take over my precious.
I will let you know about ST party - gotta get the dates first 'cos am planning a holiday up north - trying to arrange for hotels that will accept pets (Ipoh, Langkawi, Penang & Camerons). If I can coordinate all the dates, then I can bring Faith with m on a long 2 week vacation. Fingers crossed before I go yippeeeee.

and using the tweezle to pluck the ear hair, can you teach me again this saturday? I very shaky in plucking hair hehe... my family all also don't know and scared also.. ekeke....

hahaha ! you BB is a boy....you dress her like a cute girl la !!! that's way, many crazy on shis-tzu like iguana (iguana protect by his skin (changing outlook from safe, shih-tzu can be pretty, can dress up a skirt,,, no body knows)Crazy ....can't know its girl or boy, have to get them up than you just like the cute rabbits also.....

i don't have a shih-tzu right now, cause my family are not allow keep the dog indoor...so....Wink the shih-tzu are easier stolen once keep at outdoor. My doggie as show on my avitor. We called her mouchichi ! naughty as monkey, can't sit `diam-diam' a min. it seem got many `jarum' on her butt !! she 3 months old now. she is a mix breed (mom is splitz, dad is mongrel) Frown I wish my doggie got good behaviour like you BB...need to spent more time to train her la!!!

About the crazy guy....just ignore it....he/she seem normal first join, sometimes also diagree others forumers but not showing like this behaviour .....then stater first fight on 1 of the forumers threath on adoption....later on....a fire mountain blow up...until now !!! he/seh seem to happy on `fight' with who on replying to him/she...its a lunatic guys...can said he/seh are so lonely..start to get so attendsion of you people ! I aslo visit many forum like sam said, got some people may talk so bit rough...but never saw this one behave like this....I'm sure he/she get kick off from the `mat salleh' forum....(mat salleh also not dumb la) when he/she said `those forumers international can accept....' Tongue bullshit ! can confirm he/she been cancel the ID forever !!! But Iovenba have done a good jon for us !! If i got doggie for adoption, he/she already kick to blacklist forever ! the doggie sure suffer on this owner !!!
