Hello Nicole ...

I am not sure what you mean ... Are you saying that Donald is kept in a cage and ALSO pees & poops in his cage?

Or do you mean that you have house-trained Donald to pee & poop inside a cage?

As for the pooping at midnight ... Try changing the feeding time to the evening ... then Donald will not poop until the next day.

Cheers

Hi ...

Most dogs do quite well on one meal a day ... but some small dogs do better and prefer 2 meals a day.

We changed our dogs from 2 to 1 meal a day gradually ... over about a week ... We started by reducing the amount of one meal while increasing the size of the other meal ... until by the end of the week - the dog only had one meal a day.

Hey.. looks like Donald's pee & poo schedule is totally screwed up.. May I suggest you to start the entire housebreaking process again? Sometimes, young dogs do regress from the housebreaking training.. You can try to reinforce it again by starting from scratch.

Make him pee/poo in the same place rather than sometimes in the cage or outside since he might be confused about where his toilet is.. Feed him at consistent time & bring him pee & poo at consistent hours.. You can also try "crate training" - this method works for adult dogs too.... There are lotsa articles out there about crate training....

Re: [nicole8] Poo...poo...problem...! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi ...

Here are some suggestions ...

(A) Using the "Search" function

There is a "Search" function at the top of the webpage ... For instance, if you are interested in "crate training" ... Just click the "Search" icon and then type in the words "crate training" ... and that will give you all the previous threads on crate training ...

This way ... you can have immediate advice, ideas, suggestions etc on many topics related to dogs, dog training, dog rearing etc ...

(B) What is Crate Training & House Training? ...

Very briefly >>>

"Crate training" is teaching your dog to use the crate as a safe place, for resting and sleeping (in crate training, the crate is NOT a peeing or pooping place) ... A dog that is crate trained will not pee or poop in the crate where he sleeps/rests - but will pee & poop outside his crate.

"House training" is teaching your dog to pee & poop at a designated place of YOUR CHOICE ...

*** Now try the Search function using the words "crate training" and "house training" to get the information you need.

(C) When to feed the dog his one meal a day?

You can feed your dog his one meal in the morning or evening ... It is very much a question of personal preference for each owner depending on each dog ...

When considering whether to feed in the morning or evening, here are some of the factors to take into consideration:

(i) Examine your own life-style & schedule and decide which is more convenient for you ...

(ii) Very often & for most dogs - a dog will poop soon after it has eaten ...

You posted:

" ... so i start to giv his meal once a day ...but now is my headache started coz i give his to have his meal at morning ,sometime he just peeing but whole day also dowan poo...until midnite abt 1am ...then donald will start barking and i hav to attend him and wait until he finish he poo poo...and he wil go back to his bed sleeping ..."

From your post - it appears that when you changed from 2 to 1 meal a day - your dog's poop timing also changed and became eratic ...

This is nothing to worry about - whenever you change a dog's meal time, the number of meals or amount of food fed - it will take some time (usually a few days up to a week) for the dog and its digestive system to regularise and accommodate the new schedule and amount of food per meal,

From what you posted, it also appears that your dog is slightly different from most dogs in that your dog does not poop after the morning meal ... but will hold his poop until midnight ... So - it looks like your dog will be ready to poop about 12+hours after being fed.

Which is why I suggested that you try changing his meal time from morning to the evening ...

So, if you feed your dog at say - 7pm ... then (considering your dog's 12+ hour cycle) ... hopefully your dog will not need to poop at midnight but will be ready to poop 12+ hours later - namely, the next morning ... And that may make life a little easier for you.

Also remember - dogs like consistency & regularity ... once you establish a rhythm & schedule for your dog's feeding, peeing & pooping - your dog will very much maintain that schedule ...

Cheers Smile

Hi Nicole8...

Looks like "surchinmy" has given you all the answers you are looking for.. . The reason that I suggested crate training is because crate training ,apart , from teaching the dog not to pee/poop in his "safe haven", can also help regulates his day-to-day schedule.. But it takes a lot of time & effort.

With housebreaking use the crate method, you pretty much write out a schedule for your dog i.e when is play time, sleep time, pee/poop time & eat time.... That way, it promotes consistency. But bear in mind though, you have to introduce your dog to the crate first. You can find articles on that over the internet easily.

take care:)

Re: [nicole8] Poo...poo...problem...! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello Nicole ...

Sometimes people it is too late to train people Tongue ... but never too late to train a doggie ... Smile ... So, even if Donald is one year old - you can still crate him if you wish ...

But as HappyTux said - it will requires patience & consistency on your part - especially where you have previously used the crate as a place to pee & poop ... Basically, you need to "undo" all that earlier training & re-train ...

When trying to teach a dog - the first thing to remember is that dogs do not understand human language ... so, you cannot use human language to tell the dog what to do - you need "TO SHOW" the dog what you wish it to do ...

For example:

You wish to teach a dog that 11pm is bed-time ... and that bed-time means being quiet and going to sleep ...

*** For sure, telling your dog that 11pm is bed-time is not going to do any good ... Trying to explain concept of sleep in human words is also not going to do any good.

*** And trying to force Donald into a crate or confining him to his sleeping area at 11pm and expecting Donald to sleep - may not work.

So - you need to use your imagination and think of a way "TO SHOW" Donald that 11am is bedtime ...

Suggestion:

Basically - the important thing to remember is to to let Donald have enough play & exercise during the day ... come night time - he will be ready to rest ... But if you crate him all day - or let him sleep all day ... the come night-time, when you are home - Donald will be full of energy & want to play with you ... (same same - just like with people) ...

So - lets say that 11pm is Donald's bedtime --- What you can do is this - say at 9.30pm or 10pm ... take Donald out into the garden ... and play with him ... play catch ... play chase ... fetch ... whatever ... just play until you see that Donald is tired ...

Once Donald is tired, you lead him to his sleeping area at 11pm (make sure the sleeping area is somewhere quiet, without distractions)... give him a chew or soft toy to play with ... turn off the lights ... and Donald will likely fall asleep ...

If you repeat the above everyday for a week ... Donald will learn that 11pm is bedtime ... his body clock will adjust to the routine that you have set ... and Donald will learn that bedtime is 11pm ... and will fall asleep.

Trying to teach or convince a puppy not to bark, stay quiet & go to sleep - when he is wide awake, full of energy and wanting to play - is NOT going to be easy ... But if you tire Donald out with some good healthy exercise & play ... then - Donald will go to sleep all by himself ...

I seriously suggest you get a good dog training manual & dog behaviour book - Use Search Function and search for the words "dog training manual" for suggestions ... or try this www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A383ABZY40JIYO/103-4227807-8096642

Cheers

Hmmm ...

There is probably something irritating your dog's eye ... which will account for the excessive blinking ... The eye should be clear & bright ... not dull ... and there should be no "eye dirt" in the eye itself ...

But it's impossible to say whether it's just some dirt or an infection ...

Eyes are very sensitive and require the attention of an expert ... Damage to the eye is often irrepairable - so please take your dog to the vet immediately for a check up ...

All the best

Nicole ...

Sorry sorry ... forgot to mention ...

What you can do straight away is ... to GENTLY flush out your dog's eye with some clean fresh water ...

Just soak a clean towel in clean water ... hold the wet soaking towel above your dog's OPEN eye and just squeeze the towel and let the water drip gently into the eye ... really flush out the eye ...

If it is just dirt irritating your dog's eye - that should help your dog wash the dirt out ...

But to be safe - get your dog to a vet for a check up.

Cheers
