Oh dear.. I really don't know how... What I did was a lot of scolding, smacking and punishment ( lock in the cage ) Sometimes work for only few days.. And she will do again.. So keep on teaching.. Especially yours a puppy.. Need more patient and time.... They are like kids.. At times no matther how they still do the same... I reall hope you will find a solution soon.. Maybe a form of punishment he hates... Sorry if cannot be any help... I hoe others will reply you soon about their experience too... Fiona

I guess you have to give Rusty new chewy toy (tasty bone) once in a while, at least that will keep him occupy for couple of days.

When you discipline him, have to be very firm and harsh at times.

Actually I only realised that discipline cocker spaniel is so much harder compared with Beagle. Beagle is famous being naughty & playful, but they are smart, therefore a fast learner. Whereas cocker is not that smart, at times find my Tasha is quite stupid & stubborn...didn't get the message fast enough, so learning through the hard way...sometimes get canning from me...actually not that hard because she has quite a thick fur.

Initially when she first came into our family, she was really "kurang ajar". Snatched food from your hand, she would try all methods to reach for the food like crazy. Jumped on me when I reach home etc. Quite a slow learner....but now she knows the rules. But sometime she would still try to test me, I just need to show her the cane, she would quickly well behaved.

Hope the above tips help.

Re: [GSlover] Looking For Cocker Spaniel Lovers [In reply to] Can't Post

heyy thanks for the tip...i tot cockers were smart..cause with rusty all the commands came easily ..when food is reward he'll listen! it only took me like 15 mins to teach him the stay command!!

but when it comes to certain things..he disobeys...how did u stop tasha from snatching food...rusty doesnt snatch food frm our hands but when we are not lloking he goes into the kitchen..once he took down 1kg of sawi from the table and ate it!!!! its a bit stressful for my parents sometimes...but we love him nevertheless.... :)

Well...may be your dog still not get used to your house rule yet. I guess your family still have to constantly keep an eye on Rusty all the times. Everyone in the family must use the standardize commands. Reinforce the rules.

Most of the common mistake people do is whenever the dog did something wrong:-

1) they shouted the dog's name first instead of saying "No" first. So that's why the dog never understand.

2) they punish the dog after the fact, the dog also didn't get it.

Poor dog get confused by the different command all the time, how do you expect them to learn correctly.

I have this problem too...because my maid never adhere to my standard command, that's why Tasha did not learn as fast as I expected. My maid always like to call upon their names first whenever caught them in the crime act. What to do....I also have to work during day time. So my maid spent more time with my fur kids.

Jus about to read all ur conversation...haha...Tongueso our ACS is about the same age ler~~ACS is smart jus tat they more playful so they used to play than listen.Mocha can listen well.i used a newspaper roll to teach him.so once he get noti i ll take the newspaper roll n he ll stop everything.if i hit on the floor...he ll run into the bathroom n sleep there.

Last time even i eating snack oso need to stand or lock him in the cage onli i able to enjoy it but now is ok.i jus make him sit or down then stay...he ll sit there without jumping over me to eat my food

Good! Your Mocha is smart! Tasha is very head strong..she is not afraid of anything, even the cane etc. Quite hard to train, slow learner compared to my another dog, Beagle. Most people say Beagle is hard to train, but I think Tasha is more difficult to train because of her studburness. We have to use consistent command and persistence, then only she learnt.

Tasha loves food very much, she sees food she will go crazy and excited. When I say "go away" she knows she won't have a chance, she would stop her excitement and sit down there just watch. Tasha loves to do tricks, she could jump over the loop, stand up turning around etc. Because she knows she would be rewarded with food. But one thing she can't follow "sit still and stay there" command. She always want to stay close follow me.Unsure

Color changing could be due to food as well. If the dog is under nourish, the fur coat will be dull and rough. I guess your puppy is changing coat, pretty normal for dogs. As long as its fur is soft and color rich, then it is healthy.

Thanks for sharing such beautiful photos with us here... I miss my dog back in the US I left.. My mom and dad against me taking him home and until now, I cannot find any dogs that has similiar behavior as him.... He is my best friend never leave my side... I had my friend to take him home to Malaysia for me but she back out so until now I have not forgiven her yet... We still in talking terms but just cannot forgive... Sigh... I am helping out at the grooming center and learning how they groom the dogs.. I am still very poor and cannot cut straight.. Nope not going for course or anything.. Just for fun :) Take care.. Fion
