Beagle missing in Damansara Utama Can't Post

Hi Everyone,

Picnic, my 8-month old, lemon-and-white, female Beagle is missing. I was walking her this evening at around 5 pm when she jerked the leash away. This time I couldnt get her back when she ran away. This Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya area is between Uptown Damansara and Kg Kayu Ara. She was last seen running away from the community hall towards the Sprint highway. We have combed the area and the surroundings but without luck. If you chance to spot a lone, white and beige coloured Beagle, perhaps with a leash trailing along, please call me at 016-2761717. Thanks, Jay

Hi Nathalie and all reading,

Good News - Picnic returned at 8am, phew.

We walked and walked around the neighbourhood again this morning. And bumped into a woman who asked about Sparky and then when she learned that Picnic ran off yesterday evening, she said, 'she is in my house'. It was off the direction which I saw Picnic run towards yesterday. The woman said Picnic was all drenched and entered when the gate was opened. She was nicely bathed was and fed till her tummy looked like a basketball, hahahha. But whining last night. Well, Sparky and Picnic seems glad to be chasing each other again. Will get a big box of chocolate for the savior. Thanks and best regards,J

Hi Ming Yang, thanks. Really relieved Picnic is fine. I wouldnt mind if she found another home, but really dread the thought of her run over at the highway or attacked by strays. Now I am wondering what I can do to prevent it happening again. Her temperament is such that if given half a chance, she will bolt and run off. Sparky is so different and will follow off-leash and respond to a recall. Maybe I have to lay a doggie buffet everytime I open the gate, hahahah. Best regards,J

ya... losing the dog and they found a good home is one thing but kena hit / run over by a car, treated badly by kids and bully by the strays is another. Last time when i lost my dog the poodle, i was praying that she found a good home to go to rather than kena caught by those puppymillers or kena mauled by the strays. oh well....

I guess next time u gotto really take some treats with u whenever u go out so that you can ask her to come back with the food as bait LOL...

Hi again Ming Yang, sorry to hear about your poddle.

Actually I always carry some food with me when I walk the doggies. But our pampered puppies are quite well fed and never that hungry, right? So sometimes Picnic will refuse the treat and go her own way. That is very frustrating. I guess I have to work more on their recall. Get some really really enticing grub and maybe have to walk them separately, to get their attention during training. It can be very distracting to try to train 2 dogs together. Best regards,J

hi, cheer up. When it seemed that we would never see Picnic again, and we had awful thoughts of what could have happened to her, I just told my children that we will assume that she has found another home, and that is not bad at all. As it turns out, that assumption would have been correct if she hadnt returned. Best regards,J

Hi Evie, Beagles are pretty small dogs and no Hercules. But a jerk when you are not prepared is all it takes for them to get free. We cant lock and chain them up out of concern either. And also dont want to break their spirit and individuality. I guess if they want to go their own way it is difficult to stop them. Best regards, J

Congratulations on your reunion with Picnic. Snowy ranway from the house also last week when one of the family member forgot to close the gate. It was raining heavily and I couldnt find her back after 5 minutes of searching. Out of a sudden, I saw her playing with a small kid inside someone's compound. It happened that she went into ppl's house when their gate was ajar. It was just a few houses ahead of mine. She was all wet and yet she was so happy running around. I scolded her and she gave me that kind of 'Its not my fault, you opened the door yourself' look. Thank god that I've found her. The feeling of losing her was hard to describe and I truly understand how one feels when he cant find his dog back.

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Evie, well it started raining during our walk and we were running back home. I was holding both leashes in one hand and dunno how Picnic jerked loose. Did you think I stopped to chat with a beautiful jogger and forgot about the doggies? Heheheh

The poo biz is stable now. If I take them out for a short walk to eleminate before bed time, they will normally hold out till the next morning walk. Their bowel control seems to be improving, maybe cos they are growing older or the training or both. But every 3-4 days they will still bomb the place. That is ok cos I need to wash their area anyway.

I think in a month or two, they should be be more consistent. Meanwhile, I just want to avoid them forming poor pooping habits which may be difficult to correct later. But it is hard work to take them out 3 times a day and can be tiring. Most of the time I just want to retire into my room after dinner and have a quiet evening. Sigh, hope the puppies shape up soon. Best regards,J

keke...beautiful jogger or otherwise...never know mar....

but it sounds good that their poo biz is getting better...any idea whether they still bomb the every 3 or 4 days at the spot because they are hinting that they want you to wash up?

btw, walking a little after u makan sounds good....my kid's sessions are still not that regular but she will hold till i uncrate her....so kinda tough sometimes as her elimination can be anything 10 min after makan to 5 hours after makan!

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Evie, I think the bombing is mostly Picnic's doing. Sparky being the guy will poop whenever I take them out which settles the issue. Picnic is more shy and will try to hold on if she can. Picnic is like your Shalom, sometimes she poops when you take her out and sometimes not. The trouble is sometimes she is urgent when she is indoors. They will clear up by eating the evidence, leaving only the stains which have to be washed off anyway. If I want Picnic to hold till the morning walk, I often have to crate her overnight which I prefer not to. Otherwise she will sneak a private bombing session thinking noone knows. Maybe I will take your suggestion to take them out earlier in the evening after everyone's dinner. Best regards,J

Hi Evie, Picnic has flown the coop again. You know she ran away Monday but was returned the next day. Well, she ran off again Thursday and has been away for 4 days. We have combed every road in this area thinking that she may have gone into another home again. I have even checked the petshops in Uptown Damansara nearby. The first time my daughters were really sad but this time they seem to accept that it is hard to keep Picnic if she insists on running away at every opportunity. I just hope she finds a good home.

Meanwhile, Sparky has grown really attached to me and begun howling rregularly. He must miss having Picnic's company the whole day. We all try to spend more time with him without spoiling him. He was barking a lot last night and first thing this morning but seems more relaxed later. I hope he settles down and adjusts to being the only dog in the house. Best regards,J

Hi Evie, yes there is the possibility Picnic has wandered further than we expected. That would be despite the area being surrounded by the LDP, Sprint and Sungei Kayu Ara. It doesn't feel like she is nearby cos we have peeped into every compound and listened to barks. Either Sparky's nose is not working or Picnic is comfortably indoors. I hope she is being taken care of. Best regards,J

Hi Evie, I am trying to move on from the sadness of losing Picnic. So if I have to think of Picnic, I hope that she is being taken care of. Sparky was howling a few nights before he slept and after he wakes up in the morning at 6.00am. But last night and this morning he was his previous cool Joe self again. He waited quietly for me to send my children to school before his morning walk. Everyone is spending a bit more time with him and he seems to be adjusting to being the only doggie in the house.

By the way, I sold a pile of newspapers this morning for the first time in 6 months, hahahaha. Havent had to soap and wash the doggie area for a week now. Sparky is pretty much toilet trained, if this is a permanent development. Best regards,J

BUT that just does not seem to work. she refuses her biz time if there s someone watching her. malu perhaps?

Hi Evie, I thought car tyres are meant for dogs to pee at, hahaha. Seriously, I don't leave Sparky in the car porch cos of concern of dog nappers, shoe chewing and cars have tyres. During walks at the field, he will pee at almost every tree, lamp post and car tyre, until he runs dry. I dunno if this behaviour can be changed or need to be curbed. Picnic used to just pee on the grass. When he is in the indoor garden he will pee on or near the drain as expected. The pooping is (was, hopefully) the headache, complicated by poop-eating. I am so glad Sparky is back to his Joe cool self, phew. He is an endearing fellow. Best regards,J

i don't allow tyres with my male westie...coz it stinks and teh fact that it can ruin the rims quite badly. (sorry but i love cars too...so pee on tyres and rims are a no no for the kids).

so my westie only had to contend himself with trees and trees only. he is also banned from pots...smelly leh...and lamp post. took some time to train but now he gets the idea. from time to time he would look at me for permission to stain those prohibited item. but the moment i say NO, he gets the idea and walks on until he gets his tree or stone (sometimes even a pebble would suffice).

with shalom...sigh...its paper playing and sometimes the pooh eating....sigh sigh..so far she has not had the shoe craze. unlike our cat missy who would roll over every shoe that is not kept on the rack!

i think sparky is a cool dude. would be fun to meet him...i can imagine him from ur writings.Wink

Hi Evie, yeah doggie pee can smell very strong especially from males. Fortunately, Sparky has learnt to do his peeing at the drain. Even then they need flushing each time. He will pee on the trees during walks which I think is a great place to empty his bladder. I notice the grass turns yellow if he pees on the same spot for a few days so have to spread out the attention, hehehe. I agree that it is a good policy to keep our doggies away from our cars and shoes. It is no fun to have our things stinking and damaged.

Sparky behaves very well and so is allowed indoors when he can be supervised. Still not comfortable to give him free reign of the house cos I am afraid he may be destructive when bored. Best regards,J

Called them and found out that they are 6-months old, tri-color, one male one female, imported from Australia and going for RM2,900 each. Sigh, I was just thinking how they can be trying to sell a second hand dog and risk getting stolen goods. Thanks anyway. Wah, but so expensive. Hi Evie, it was ok. Actually, since it was not Picnic, calling Mid-valley saved me a trip there.

I agree with you. Petshops are great places to get pet food, treats and accessories. But maybe they shouldnt sell the animals except perhaps the aquarium fishes. It may be convenient for shoppers but prospective dog owners should do some homework anyway. But this is a complex issue.

Ok I will think of you if I fall on hard times and cant afford the kibble for Sparky, heheheh. He is a really nice doggie with even temperament -confident but not imposing. Dunno why Picnic was so different although from the same litter. Anyway.... Best regards,J

actually i think picnic had a greater adventurous streak in her...thus explains her runaway trips.

and yes, keep me in mind! but i doubt that you would ever have the ehart to let him go. he sounds absolutely angelic..although i bet there are the moments that you wish to strangle him too...shalom is an angel but some days she just drives me up the wall...over the weekend..we had guest over for dinner...aiyah. my kid made the little boy pee in his pants..yeah and ended up i had extra to clean upFrown.

i like the idea of picnic being a stowaway case. bet that would be my dreams tonight.

no lar. the kid likes dogs but at teh same time was unsure of dogs. he wanted my soft toy dog instead....and it did not help that the kid was talking so excitedly all the time...naturally shalom thought there was a game with someone new. i crated her...and guess what..he released her and complained that i shd be locking up my dog when guests come....what a kid. either he releases her from the crate or he teases her..thank goodness ofr her godma interfering...telling the kid off. my territory...not s nice to tell my guest off...her godma basically is more like a regular a our home.

hi Ying, thanks for the concern. Picnic has been missing for 2 weeks now. She ran off twice in 3 days. The first time she ended up in a neighbours house overnight. But the second time she just shot off, never to be seen again. I have combed the whole area with Sparky but without a trace. In all probability, she was picked up and has found another home by now. I am comforted that she is spayed, so no danger falling into the hands of puppy millers. Only hope she is being taken care of. Picnic is a rather willful and easily distracted doggie. Maybe I will get a call from the new owner after she poops all over his house one time too often, hehehe. Sparky has gotten over the initial loneliness and enjoying all the attention. Best regards,J

hi Ying, I guess I was careless but it is difficult to keep a doggie if she insist on running off at the slightest opportunity. We are all just adjusting to Picnic's absence and have no immediate plans to replace her. Sparky has settled down after a few days of restlessness and howling at night. I am not prepared to face new issues of compatability and rivalry just yet. Maybe a jet black Lab later, heheheh. Best regards,J

Hi everyone,

Picnic is home!

Yes after 1 1/2 months. The newspaperman spotted her 4 streets away, being walked by a man at the main road. Rushed there, noone around but Picnic was in the compound of the house. At first she was nervous but she recognised me after a few seconds. Looks like she was taken care of but she is fat with no waist to be seen. What a contrast with the athletic Sparky. My 2 daughters are thrilled. Such a happy ending to this episode.

Thanks for all your concern and support. Best regards,J

Good thing the newspaper man is so observant when he goes on his rounds everyday that he recognised Picnic so easily. First thing is to get her back in to shapeWink

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your messages.

kychoo, after so many false hopes and wild goose chases, I was pleasantly surprised. There is always hope and I wish you the same luck.

shlee, yeah I am one lucky fella, twice over. Hope you get lucky too, with your Mimi. Er, the girl who had taken Picnic in was heart broken. She must have grown quite attached to Picnic.

Audrey, the shape will recover with a bit of time. I am trying to convert her back to a healthy diet. She is so overfed she skipped the first dinner at home. Just imagine a Beagle refuse food, tsk tsk tsk.

Ying, thanks and I really hope you wont have to come over for another search for Picnic. Yeah, the kind neighbours have renewed my faith in the goodness of people.

Evie, so far Sparky has pooped indoors once yesterday afternoon. Picnic has been good. Her diet hasnt been consistent so the poop quality is affected. It is good to have both puppies at home again. Best regards,J

Hi Audrey, I am sure Picnic misses her benefactor of 48 days. But it is unusual for a Beagle to let much get in the way of food issues. Then again, maybe I should feed them more . . . Yeah, I hope that was Picnic's last adventure. It is worrisome not knowing the fate of your missing doggie, although I had assumed that her charm and good looks got her a new home. Best regards,J

Hi Surchinmy, everyone at home is happier that Picnic is home again. After 1 1/2 months we had accepted that we may not see her again but we always like nice surprises. Sparky and Picnic seems to have resumed their old rivalry but I am certain they are happier with the company. I would be surprised if Picnic doesnt regain her trim self, what with chasing Sparky around all day. Sparky doesnt stare longingly whenever I step out of the house any more. He is back to his cool, nonchalant self but I know better, hehehe.

Thanks, it is nice to be back especially with such great news to share. But I noticed the place reeks of a sales pitch. Although sometimes amusing but not always pleasant, sigh. Best regards,J

Hi Surchinmy, Thanks for sharing the joy of having Picnic back.

I am afraid I cant take in another doggie, not now anyway.

I have revived my poop scientist career, heheheh. Pooping habits sorted out with Sparky alone have resurfaced now that Picnic is back. It is more complicated this time cos Picnic is changing back to a healthier diet, Sparky is less focused now and I dont want to restrict their water cos of the current hot spell. But it is ok cos I can see that the doggies are happier. Best regards,J

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Evie, I have revived my career as a poop scientist. The puppies pooping routine are in disarray. Since Picnic got back, Sparky pooped indoors that same afternoon and had very soft stool the next day. Picnic didnt want to eat the first evening and had some loose stool when I began to change her kibble. Yesterday they both didnt poop during the evening walk and did an early morning indoor bombing session just now. And yes, they still eat their own and each other's poop. They pooped again normally during the morning walk and I hope that is on the way back to a decent routine again. But I am still glad Picnic is back.

Are you still struggling with Shalom's pooping habits? Best regards,J

Re: [jaytan] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

power bunny is getting better. i have experimented with pureed pineapples. she ends up either smelling and walking away or just a nip and quickly releasing it followed by a long drink of water!

tried pumpkin...isn't working as well as i thought it would. poop came out very pumpkinish in color...and yes slight pumpkin scent too. psd shared to puree the raw pumpkin with a little water and i added yoghurt to preassimilate the pumpkin before it enters her stomach....i mean puree pumpkin, a little water and yoghurt together.

that aside, i still have to keep an eye on her. but now that she is doing bones (finally started over the weekend..having seen her love the carcass so much)...i am finding it difficult to track her poo hours. she used to poo within 10 minutes of eating. with bones...she contipated a little and can poo anytime (max of twice a day).

sparky is probably disoriented a little with picnic's return..and maybe a little worried of lesser attention for him. just keep them both happy. aslo change of kiblles sometimes can make poo sessions a little havocky for a period or two.

Hi Ying, alamak, didnt take any photos lah. Otherwise can use for slimming center advertisement. Anyway, after refusing food for one evening and running around with Sparky, Picnic is regaining her beauty peagant figure. Still rounder than Sparky but can see some waist now, hehehhe.

The wonderful lady who took care of Picnic for 1 1/2 months refused any reward. So we gave her a present. Guess what we saw in her compound - another Beagle puppy. Maybe 2-3 months old, tri-color furkid. She must have liked Picnic so much, she rushed out to get a doggie for herself, heheheh. Best regards,J
