You need the permit for entry purposed. YOu will need to present the original copy of the permit to the VET department in KLIA where they will stamp and sign to confirm that your dog is allowed to enter. From there, the airline will issue you the DO that you need to present for the collection of your dog from the Animal Hotel.

Cheers

So how long would it take for the permit application?
if i ask someone in KL to apply it for me, he/she has to send the original copy to me, right?
or, can he/she just standby at the airport and go tru the procedures, say...showing the permit upon the presence of my dog?

Hi ,

Sorry, I cannot answer your queries rdging what is the purpose of an import permit. May I suggest you do a search on any major search engines using phrases like "import dogs to Malaysia". This is how I came across the Vet.Services Dept of Malaysia using the Yahoo search engine.Smile

May I also suggest you might try to ask the Malaysia Kennel Association for some guidelines. They are on the web as .

Wishing you every success in your quest.

Apply it at the counter and wait for about 30 minutes and you will get your import permit. As for clearance, you can always appoint agent if you wish.

Thank you very much!

I've visited some of the useful websites and will explore more of them later on.
I think I'm being too WORRY about the whole process, not really sure about the FACTS behind all these procedures. U know..... sometimes what the authorities required will ended up not the same as what you've been told "officially".

30 minutes? That's not too bad.

is there any agent could take care of the whole process (from US to KL)?
just pay the agent and have everything done without troubles?

As for the agent to handle your dog from LAX to KL, I do not know whether there is any. You will have to check from US side. The local agents will only help you to clear the dog locally and arrange your dog to the quarantine station.

For dogs that is coming to Malaysia from USA, you will have to meet local requirement such as import permit, health certificate and one week quarantine in KLIA. As for dog leaving USA, you will have to check with US side. I am not aware of the need to quarantine the dog in USA for one week before leaving US soil.

Cheers

Yes, you will have to send your dog to your VET (government VET is even better) for a complete check and Rabies vaccination and get them to issue you a health certificate to certify that your dog has a clean bill of health. With this and import permit, you should not have any problem of gaining entry into Malaysia.

Re: [mackmack] Super Dog Lover here! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. My brother is in Boston working and recently had a friend who brought a dog back to Johor. This si what my brother told me but am not too sure. First, you have to make sure that all the vaccinations are in order. Check with your vet if you require any special (additional) vaccinations to enter Malaysia. Then you have to proceed to apply for an export permit. Once you have that, keep the original with you. Apply with the airline when you buy your ticket for an animal crate. Get the largest one so that there is enough space. Oh yes, have stopovers on your trip and check with the airline if you are allowed to check your dog out for water. My brother's friend stopped over in London and he was allowed to do that. Then when you arrive in KLIA, your dog will immediately be transported to the quarantine centre and you can meet him there. It's actually after the Sepang circuit. He will be quarantined for about a week and after that you can take him home but he must still remain quorantined for a further 3 weeks (I think). While the dog is at the quarantine centre, you must make arrangements to feed him daily. It is not an automatic request, so, please remember this. I heard that the place is rather poorly kept and animals not treated too well. Oh yes, you might want to consider sedating your dog for the journey otherwise, your dog may get sick and restless. Remember not to feed for 24 hours prior to flight time.

Hope this helps. My brother did mention that any vet could give you some guidance.

Valery

Thank You Sooooo Much, Valery!!
I have my dog fully vaccinated, rabbies etc.
>>Check with your vet if you require any special (additional) vaccinations to enter Malaysia.

I've asked the vet once, but he said they will do whatever the M'sia side request. He asked if i could get a list of import requirement so that he could just give the proper vaccination or whatever inspection is needed coz every country has different policy.

I guess the friend of your brother took MAS from NY right? Is there any possible chance that I could contact this person, like email or msn?
Do you mean i also have to get a permit BEFORE i leave US? For the request of crate, is it come along with the cargo charges or it's extra charge. Coz i do have a crate but it might not BIG enough for him to turn around, maybe just fit-to-lay down.

Sorry but my brother's friend is honeymooning somewhere in South Africa this very moment and won't be back until after Chinese New Year. In Malaysia, we laso need to apply for an export permit. Basically this permit only proves that the government veterinary department has seen your dog and verifies that the vaccinations are in order. I've done export but not an import yet (Labrador). As far as I know, when I was arranging the export, you are only allowed to use the airline standard crates (different sizes) but I also got to know that different airlines have differrent rules, so please check with the airline you're gonna travel with. I know that AC and LH are more lenient. My brother's friend actually took MH from Boston-London-Singapore-KL (breaking in London and Singapore). Not an easy task but definitely rewarding to have your little furry friend at your side after all the trouble ! Whatever you do, please check properly (don't be hasty) and always call and call the airline b4 departure to ensure that your crate is ready and where you should collect and load. When are you planning to return by the way ?

Valery

I plan to have my housemate bring Mack home on Jan 3. My housemate has bought his ticket, MAS, from LA to KLIA, one stop at Taipei.
I migh travel from Michigan to LA with them if I could get the ticket of same flight. At first, I thought Mack need to be quarantine in LAX for one week time.... and about the crate, i just thought if i provide myself then i won't be charged extra for that. Anyway, the most important thing is have him back SAFELY and troubles-free.

So, sum up all the above suggestions and comments, I think i need:
1. call the airline for details.
2. request crate
3. once confirm to have him on flight, then get the export/import permit.
4. health cert from vet, and vaccinaion if needed.
5. keep calling both parties in KL and LA
Right?
did i miss out anything important procedures?

FYI [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all~!
I've called the MAS passanger reservation service in LA. Everythings sounds very simple!Smile
What I need upon departure would be the "import-permit" and "health certificate" (7 days validation)by any local vet.
The cage/crate limitations are not more than 150-inches of length+width+height measurement, and not more than 100-pounds of pet+crate. No quarantince needed before departure. Just need to reconfirm with MAS again before the flight schedule, say one day is okay too.
The charges will be the extra charge of 2 baggage.
2x $109 = $218 (no other miscellenuous charge). However, if have a few pounds over weight, they may still allow the check-in or they'll charge some extra based on theover-weight/size units.

I am very happy to gather the info and the receptionists are very helpful and sincere.

BUT,
(yes, there's always a "but" if things get too smooth...)Mad
I just went to the airport, which is a very very small aiport in this town, smaller than Pudu Raya......
of course, you guys could imagine which kind of plane i could take here....... those 2 rows with 2 seats on each rows.
Guess what?! Northwest categorize pets into 5 groups, small, medium, large, extra large and giant.
The airport here doesn't carry any pet that is "large" or above "large" category, and my golden is 88 pounds which consider an Extra Large Breed.Frown
I can't have Mack depart from thsi town.
My alternate option now is,
in order to let my friend to bring Mack home on Jan 3, we might have to rent a car and travel to another city from here, say Minneapolis, stayed over night, then depart from the there, cos my friend will transit at there too. But instead of transitting there, we have to drive to there and depert/check-in from there. Wasted one journey of the flight.

Ooooo........ and i'ms till not sure about the charges of Northwest pet Carrier service.

Oh yeah! one more thing: for MAS, crates are not provided byt he airlines, can't even rent one. So, i have to buy a new one for Mack. I do have one 40"x27"x30" Petmate Plastic crate, but it could just fit him right, not flexible enough to turn and stand still. i'm noe having problem toget an affordable crate. most of them are around USD$130.

Anyway, just wish to share with u guys about what I've jsut learned today.

i will keep survey on the info.

hope this thread could also help those who's facing the same problem as I do.

Wow, that rate OF US$ 218 is low. It seem that my friend is overcharged by the agent.
