Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi cowcow,

All hounds have a natural "hound" smell. But if they roll themselves in something dirty, then they can get really smelly. Once I caught Bodhi rubbing his head and body on the ground. When I looked closer, it was a dead lizard (or something dead-lah!). Yucks! So, Coco might have rubbed herself on something like that. You should also make sure you dry Coco properly if she ever gets wet (playing, rain etc). If not, their body will smell funny after that. But if you are referring to the daily smell, then I think that's normal. In fact, I quite like the smell Crazy. Crazy, huh?

The walk was really fun last Tuesday. We had 4 beagles that day.. Snuffy was so excited with the horse and howling non-stop on most of her walk.

I must agree with ginl. While Pavarotti sang for the rich and famous at Pangkor Laut, we had Snuffy belting out her very own greatest hits amid the Kiara rainforest! Cool Bravo, Encore, encore !!!!!

I've visited MKA site but I would like to know more about the traning class from you guys since your pets are all in there :) How long does the traning lasts every session and is it once a week? Do I have to enroll seperately for each class , such as Novice, Pre-novice or she will progress from one to another automatically? Each course cost RM100 ? When should I start enrolling Snowy since now she is just 2 1/2 months old and just got her second injection.

Re: Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello everyone. My name is Lindsey and I recently purchased a Beagle from a pet store about 4 weeks ago. She's almost 4 months old and I love her very much but she's really causing me A LOT OF STRESS. She whines all the time. She whines on her teather outside, she whines in her crate, and sometimes she just whines to whine. I know she wants attention, but as a university student I can't giver her attention 24/7. If she isn't whining while I'm trying to do something she's chewing something up, anything she can get her little mouth on. I love her so much, and I don't want to give her away. What am I supposed to do? I try to ignore her, but she has some vocals. I also always make sure she has had enough to eat, and that she doesn't need to go potty, but she's still a little demon. Will this pass?

Re: [Lilly] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Lilly,

Welcome to the beagle world.
Bealges are very active dog and they make lots of noise when they are left alone, when they are bored etc. They especially hate it if they are left in a crate for long hours. It is in their nature to roam around and if they are kept in enclosed area they are dead bored Crazy. But I understand your busy schedule.
Here's a few things to try out....

(1)Try getting your dog lots of chew toys to keep her busy. A 'KONG' staff with food will do great to keep her busy trying to get the food out.

(2) When ever you are free take her out for long walks or play with her a game that will enable her to take up lots of her energy.

Hope this helps.

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Re: [carmine] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Carmine,

In answer to your queries...
  1. Classes are held once a week (Sundays) and lasts about 1 hour (either 4-5pm, or 5-6pm). There are approx. 10 lessons altogether (i.e. 10 weeks)
  2. Once you have completed all 10 lessons, it's up to you whether you want to enrol for the next 10 classes (more advanced). That will be another RM100.
  3. You can start to enrol Snowy for puppy classes now. The next intake is sometime in June (I think). By then, Snowy should have gotten all her jabs already. Puppy classes are for dogs between 3-6 mths old.

Good luck Smile.

Re: [TohCS] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

TohCS, thank you so much for your reply! I think I'll go buy her some more chew toys since she seems to get bored of her old ones fast. Other than that we go for walks, play etc. seems like all the time Crazy so getting her pooped isn't always the problem. Hopefully SOMEDAY she'll get used to mommy being away for 2 or 3 hours sometimes Laugh, but for now I'll just be patient. PS. you have a really cute doggy! As soon as I can I'll put my dog's picture up here. I actually have another question though. Lilly is about 4 months old and she only weighs about 9 or 10 lbs. She's TINY, and her groomer/future obediance teacher commented on how small she is for a beagle. Is that normal for a beagle? Thanks again for your reply! Sly

Re: [Lilly] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Lilly,

When Bodhi was around 4mths old, she was quite small for her age too. She only weighed slightly more than 5 kg (around 11lbs). I thought she would never grow. My vet suggested that I feed her with milk and eggs (in addition to her normal diet), to accelerate her growth rate....and it worked. Having said that, I think it's all in the genes. Bodhi's mum was quite small sized too. So, I guess she took after her. Bodhi is nearing 9 mths-old now and weighs around 11 kgs. A full grown Beagle weighs between 10-15 kgs (i.e. 22 - 33 lbs). Good luck Smile.

Eventually i bought lots lots of kibbles at the pet show last week. now i start worrying. if give her wet food, she would jump, roll, shake hand. without that, she just look at me and walk away. when i walk away, she's like "force" to eat like that. I see already also felt bit bit guilty.... Pirate

now coco is at 10KG. but ratio a bit different from bodhi. is head very small and body very big. hmmm????

Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi cowcow,

Haven't seen coco for some time already. She must've grown quite a lot because 10kg is quite heavy for a small dog Shocked (Coco must be around 6 mths-old????). Actually, don't worry about her figure now. Most important is she eats well and grow well Smile. Only when she reaches 10-12mths, then you should start to convert her puppy fat into muscles (by lots of exercise). You should also make sure that she doesn't get overweight coz it's not healthy and bad for her backFrown. That's what my vet told me. So, until then let her eat and grow as much as she can. Wink

Thanks for your info! I heard from someone that Snowy cant learn much from Puppy Kindergarden and he sugguested me to enroll her into Pre-Novice. What do you think? What can she learn from Puppy Kindergarden?

Today she vomitted her food in the morning. But she seems healthy and can run and jump and bite as usual. I wonder why sometimes she will vomit.

Re: [carmine] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Carmine,

Puppy kindergarten is meant to "introduce" the young pups to the idea of training. It's not so strict compared to Basic, Pre-novice and so on. Merely to socialise and expose your puppy to people & other dogs. But you still learn enough for Snowy sit for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, and with some luck, pass it too Wink! I don't think it's a good idea to join pre-novice without any prior basic training...unless of course you have trained Snowy quite well at home already. Anyway, it's up to you. But personally, I think there's no rush. Take it step by step. Let Snowy enjoy the basic stuff first before subjecting her to the rigorous advance training. Also, you must consider whether you have enough time to practice. If not, then it's better to start with the easy stuff first because it's no use going for pre-novice classes once a week and expect your puppy to do wonders.

I'm not too sure about the vomitting part. Maybe other members can help you out. Actually Bodhi vomits occasionally as well. But that's because she eats all sorts of things in the garden and that upsets her stomach. For example, she vomitted pieces of what appears to be leaves. But after that, she was ok and ate her dinner as usual.Smile

Brought Snowy for second injection today. Now that she is 3-month-old she weights 5.15KG, is she fat ? Haha I wish she will never become fei poh.

I will be going back to my hometown for holiday soon next week and I am doubting whether I should bring her back too. She never travel in the car before, except for Vet visit, which is only about 30 minute drive. But theres no one who can take care of her for me. How bad can the situation be when she's having car sickness?
