Hi Cowcow,

Aa, I think you got mixed up.. The one on the floor is the new little pup with the white spot on neck (Archie) and the one on the blue sofa is Snuffy Smile. I will only be bringing Snuffy to the gathering as Archie is still too young. Your coco is so so cute, should consider grom her up for dog show..

HI KBS!
actually what's the requirement to put a dog in dog show? Just give me presure as my Coco not yet well train. Been training 2 weeks and at least know how to sit, hand, down, up. that's all, even go toilet also don't know yet. i think she need at least some obediance skill to enter dog show, right? and also need super food too? as to make the coat shining? Crazy Too much presure too much presure as i only thought she would be a family dog, that's all i wanted to be. Have ur snuffy enter the dog show before??

Hi Cowcow,

Snuffy has never entered for any dog show before. I don't know very much on dog show, but from ur coco photo, she has a very nice physical structure/outlook already for show dog. So, with a little bit of training, she will have no problem in the show. Snuffy is very naughty and hyper-active and I am not sure if it is too late to train her now for show? She is now 14 months old.

Actually Coco is bought from a guy which his appartment canot keep dog, so he force to let out. And i see him so care about the coco, that's why i show the progress of Coco to him loh!

So far she's still have the cert oh, the guy told me that the cert only will be prepared on next year around february, then he will contact me. Is it something like that? I also not sure because this is the first time i keep pure breed dog, but at least there is a micro chip inside.

the guy bought coco from petshop at ss2, I think is the beside kamdar that one. so far people always says dangerous to buy puppy from pet shop, but i see that shop condition is not bad mah, once a while got beagle puppy too.

as the guy told me also, coco's father n mom is imported breed and a champion line? I not sure and not much bother, just that will it be a bit waste if she is not in show?

KBS, actually do you have any training guide as for ur snuffy? so much guide yet i not sure how to use. choke chain? crate train? cliker train? my train just normal train, just say sit, she sit and i give her food, up, she jump and touch my hand, give her food, down, she lie down, give her food. is this correct anyway?

Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi everyone,

Here's a beagle poem by Henry J.Colombo for all beagle owners:

Sound Advice
If you are feeling blue, old man,
And your spirit is getting down
My advice to you is this,
Get yourself a beagle hound.

Then when you come home at night
He will wag his tail in greeting
The things that he would like to say,
Are well worth while repeating.

And though he really cannot talk,
He knows when things are amiss,
If he could but speak the words,
They probably would sound like this.

"Please don't feel so blue, old man,
I know you are tired and weary,
Take me out to the woods tonight,
And I will try to make it cheery.

"Let's go down to the old brush lot,
Where the rabbits romp and play,
And there I will do my best,
To drive your blues away."

And so you take your little friend,
Off to the woods you go,
He trotted so merrily ahead,
You trudged behind so slow.

At last you reach the wooded spot,
And "Pal" starts nosing around,
He soon will have a bunny up,
You can tell just by the sound.

At first it may only be a squeal,
But I'm sure it wont be long,
Before he opens loud and clear,
With that merry beagle song.

He'll drive that bunny far and wide,
At a fast and furious pace,
For he wants to cheer his master,
With this hard and thrilling chase.

If red blood courses through your veins,
You'll forget your world's cares,
For this is just the sort of chase,
That answers a beagle's prayers.

Your face will lose that constant frown,
You replace it with a smile,
And when this thrilling hunt is o'er,
Life again will seem worth while.

I see a new gleam in your eye,
As down to "Pal" you bend,
And the merry little beagle
Has made another lifelong friend.

You ask me how I know all this?
And why I give this advice so free?
The same thing happened to someone else
And that someone else was ME.

Henry J.Colombo

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Hi there,

I've a beagle as well. She's almost 5 months old now. Considering her age, she's extremely small size. Vet says her health is perfect and weight gain has been consistent. So, I guess I got myself a "miniature" beagle, although I don't think there's such a category. At the rate she's growing, I don't think she'll exceed 13" inches when fully grown.

By the way, I've been taking her for puppy kindergarten classes at Pdg Merbok. She's really having fun there, and so am I. Good exercise too! So, hope to meet some of you there.

Yes, you can say so because I have yet to see another beagle as small as mine. As for Pdg Merbok, I noticed that there's one group training only with beagles. I wonder why? Is it a private group? Anyone knows?

Hi Snoopdog

Bodhi could be a dwaf beagle. They are not rare neither are they comman. However I have come accross a someone that also owns dwaf beagle.

In the early years Elizabeth 1 owns pocket beagles that stands about 9 inches in height. But they are now extinct.

I would definetly love to look at Bodhi.

Mine still nips at me now and then, especially when she's excited. But she understands when I'm angry at her for nipping. Either that, give her something to chew. At this age, you won't be able to eliminate the problem completely because they are teething after all. But just try to minimise it and take away your hand if she does nip. I found out that the more you try to stop them, the more they try to nip.

Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Beagles are more difficult to train but not impossible. I have seen some well trainned beagles.
But then again it is true that beagles are one of the most challenging breed to train as most of them are very strong minded. Some beagles however are not so stubborn.

However I must admit my Belle is also very strong headed and as my vet says "She is a ball of fire" and will only listen when she choose to and when she does not want to listen she will give me the look that says "Huh! did you teach me that command before?"

Nipping is common among puppies regardless of breed.
Try this when she nips at you, give out a YELP! like "OUTCH".
When puppies play together and when they nip each other the one that gets nip will give a yelp and the one that does the nipping will know that it means STOP ITS PAINFULL!

As for the chasing at you it could be a sign of dominance as she choose to play with you even when you are commanding her. Try this. When feeding your puppy get it to sit/down before you feed it food and get it to stay. If it moves towards the food take it away. Ask it again to sit or down and wait till you tell it to EAT.
In this way your puppy will know you are in control. So the next time it chases you and you want it to stop , command "STOP! DOWN! " Your puppy will eventully learn that you are in control and that it is not for her to choose the play time.

Good luck.

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

i just started to train coco sit and shake hand before eat yesterday. she keep on jump and jump, till tired already, only want to sit down, then when i say hand only give me hand and can eat. but other than eating time, she won listen at all.Crazy I wondered is she really sit down because of my command or got tired only then sit down?

The biting, always canot stop, how to say ah, she bites me, i take away my hand, shouted No, but she starts to get mad, and start barking. She's just like what she wants she must get it, if not keep on bark n bark n jump n jump. sometimes get too aggresive until like wanna attack people. well, this time i really "rotan" her and tell her i am boss, duno should i do that or not. i use "rotan" because it is the only thing that make her pain, her skin like "cow skin". if i use hand beat her butt, she will start aggresive again. Pirate aiyoyo!

I just wondered how you teach ur belle stand? I went over the padang merbuk where i see normally they teach the pup "heel n sit", "heel n stand", "heel n down", and "Stay". any idea on this type of training?

hopes... coco will behave well loh...... if not, i really don't know can send her to training or not.. later she bites the trainer and i canot control, how??Frown

No i'm not in that group. There are only 2 beagles in my group. During training, they actually teach you how to stand your dogs. But beagles being beagles, mine just doesn't stand still. At home she listens but once outside especially when there are distractions, she starts to get very stubborn. I learnt to be very patient with my beagle. Because of her stubborness, sometimes I have to catch her in the right mood before I can teach her anything. But they are so intelligent that they'll learn things within a few minutes, if they want to !! But as Cheng See pointed out, there are beagles that are extremely well trained and to achieve that, I'm sure you have to be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to it. So, good luck.

Hi cowcow,

I had exact same problem with snuffy last time when she was about coco's age. But, they will get better, with constant adjustment from us. When I started scolding her sometimes, she will start running, stop and bark at me.. run, stop and bark.
I am at the 5pm class with snuffy.
My reason of sending snuffy for training is actually first, to learn some basic obedience training for our doggy and most importantly, to socialize snuffy with other dogs.

Hi kbs,

Mine does the same thing. She'll actually crouch down, head down, eyes rolled up at you and BARK...followed by a short bay! I have the feeling they just want to have the last say. Some books say that Beagles are vocally expressive. I can see why now. So, Snuffy's also attending training Pdg Merbok? Which class? I'm at the 5pm puppy class.

But if u try to notice a padang with a lot of bird watching post, is that familiar to you? it's is along jalan gasing until u reach the end of the road, near taman petaling girl school, or maybe you just need to turn in that junction where it's indicating where the taman petaling school is. It's only available on Sunday, 4-6pm.

Hmm, i saw the sin chew paper today, indicate that if want send doggie for training need to register 2 months ago?? so my coco is 3 months old, is it time for me to register now??

Hi Coco,

Snuffy doesn't like it even when I first put leash on her. She will try to jump and bite the leash, but if we introduce to them gradually and they will get use to it overtime. Patience is the key. By the way, are you wearing the choke chain for her correctly? As because if is wrong, it will hurt them more. Try to drop by to Padang Merbuk or join us in one of this gathering and maybe we can share more.

Yeah, no class this sunday. But do join the rest of the puppy.com.my members on our next Christmas gathering and bring coco along.

It is not advisable to put the choke chain on our doggy without any supervision because they might accidentally choke themself. It is better to put on choke chain only during training.

I figure out something, when i was at home, coco will poo in the toilet. if no body at home, she most probably will simply poo, i think because no body "rotan" her kua.

the method i used is if she poo at the wrong place, i rotan n scold n scold! so the next time she poo again, she so scared that i gonna rotan her and faster hide. so next time she will poo in the toilet because she know she won't be rotan if poo there. For poo is a bit hard to estimate, like only 4 times a day... while pee easier because almost 2 hours once. firstly i just tied her in toilet, pee and treats. Laugh

the bad thing is that, she only will obey me when she got treats, no treats, no matter how i call also no use. Unsure

Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Cowcow,

This is a long posting sorry about that....

I do feel your frustruation. However using the cane(rotan) might not work in most cases. In this case your dog learns that when you are in she has to wee wee in the toilet else mama is coming with a cane but when mama is not home mama does not
see so I wee wee anywhere loh!

Perhaps you might want to try this....

(1) Clean up the area that is NOT suppose to be her toilet real clean , use detergent and smell eliminator. Then spray with anti-wee wee liquid that you can purchase at the pet shop.

(2) If there is someone home ask if he/she can help with leading your puppy to the toilet area when it needs to eliminate. If there is no one around and you have to leave your puppy by herself then perhaps you may want to do this...

In the morning when your puppy have wee and poop in the toilet area DON'T clean up the area till there is no more stain. You may throw away the poop but no need to scrub the area clean. Don't hesitate to leave some stain and smell behind. You may also soak up the wee wee with tissue or newspaper and leave it in the toilet area. If you are training your puppy to wee on newspapers then leave one piece which have the wee wee/poop stain on top. (remember you only need to do this during training, once it has learn you can clean it real clean).

In this way it will not smell any poop and wee in area (1) and will smell it's toilet in (2) and wille eventually learn that (2) is the toilet.

When you return home and find the wee and poop in the right area stand near the wee and poop point at it and 'praise' your puppy and give it a reward/treat.

The other way is to leave your puppy in an enclosure within it's toilet.

If you train it to wee on newspapers leave that stack of newspaper/toilet in an enclose room.

BUT don't use your bedroom where there are beds there. Since it has not learn it's proper toilet yet
you do not want it to wee and poop on bed. So don't let it into the bedroom as yet.

Use a spare room (if any). In my case since I have no spare rooms so when I toilet train Belle
I leave Belle free run off the house and just use method 1 and 2 as mention above. However many choose to put their dogs in crate/cage when they are not in. This is also good practice as it
will ensure your puppy do not chew up things around the house especially furniture or electric
wire's. This will also teach the puppy to control it's wee and poop till you get home and release
it to it's toilet area. However leaving them in cage and crates does not mean FREE of wees and poops.
A young puppy usually is unable to hold its wee and poop for long hours and might end up weeing and
poop in the cage. So be prepare for that. Some propose getting smaller cages so that it will not
wee and poop in one end of the cage and sleep in the other end. Yes dog's in general do not
dirty their own den if they can help it. That is how they learn to control their wee and poop time.
But then again as mention don't expect much from a small puppy.

I really understand your frustruation. I know it is not easy at all. Takes lots of patience and keeping ones cool. I have felt the same frustruation and have many times wanted to "give up". But after two months of consistance and patience it works. So believe us it works just wait for the time. For some it takes days some weeks and some months for
the puppy to learn but I can ensure you when your puppy have manage to learn the results is
always very rewarding.

All the best.

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Last time my dog also on eukanuba and her poo poo really smelly. Then I change to Science Diet. She has been on Science Diet for almost a year but I plan to change her kibble cos lately I noticed she has been shedding alot.

To me I prefer my dog don't do her business when I take her out...very malu lar if ppl see it. But my dog also so scary when I take her to new places and she will wee wee and poo poo. Now I don't feel like taking her out but then if she always stay in the house later she will be like "sakai poh"....hehehe

Hi CowCow,

I think is normal for puppy to grow rapidly. Archie grew so much so quickly that I even notice it every week (I see him everyday).. I am feeding Archie Innova Puppy and so far, the poo is okay. When your puppy is used to do their business in-door (as they are trained to do so).. normally, they don't do their business outdoor unless really really tak tahan.. (based on my experience on Snuffy) and there was only once when I brought her out the entire morning, she has been tahaning at one point I knew she could not bare it any further, she kept whining and running about in the car, then I stop my car at the road side, take out the newspaper from my boot and place it by the road, the moment she sense the newspaper, she did it immediately.

Well, I trained mine "Jump over" (couch or slope),
"retrieve and letgo" (toys, rawhide bones, whatever will do Smile), "fing-fing" (bite on something and rock his head), "hop" (jump and catch his treat), etc.....
and i taught him names of neighbor's dogs and names of my housemates. Smart him! Good memories to recognise everyone's name.Wink

Would love to. But timing has always been a problem for me so far. Furthermore, the next gathering is a "quasi-birthday party for CY"....so I "paiseh" to go since it's like gate-crashing because I never met her before. Did you know there's a beagle club in singapore called Bumbling Beagles. Do check out their website. Just type in the name in a search engine in you'll find it. Quite informative.

Actually lots of people just bring their dogs for walks at the Padang. So, you can do that too. At the same time, coco can socialise with other dogs while you can enjoy watching the advance obedience superstars at work. Alternatively, amuse yourself watching the beginners fumble with our puppies Laugh (I speak for myself here Blush). All doglovers would be well and truly entertained by the experience.

Hi Cowcow,

Your coco can still come to the padang even though she is not enrolled for any class. Actually, the main reason for me enrolling my doggy for classes is to socialise them a little, to show them that there is still a dog world out there. I have just enrolled Archie for the puppy class in January.

I think Beagle will always be Beagle, no matter how many training lesson they goto, you still need to walk them with a leash as they tend to wonder away with their nose.

Hi kbs,

My wife, myself, together with Bodhi, should be hanging around the registration booth. I may be wearing a blue Nike cap. Anyway, I'll try to recognise snuffy from her many photos posted in the gallery.

Wow, snuffy's already at pre-novice! She must be very clever. Bodhi will be sitting for her CGC this January. Hopefully, "WE" can pass. If not, I'll just continue with Basic and sit for CGC another time. As you rightly pointed out, beagles will be beagles. Sometimes, they just give you that LOOK as if to say "hey....what do you mean down? what's down? i don't remember you teaching me how to down?" Tongue But you're right, most importantly, they get socialised and not become so "jakun".

I remember the first day I brought her to Pdg Merbok....I had to CARRY her because she was too scared to walk (too many dogs + people). Now, she couldn't care less even if I left her alone!! So, I'm sure coco will warm up once you start to bring her out more often.

It was nice meeting kbs (& friend, Shaz?? Sorry bad memory), snuffy and other beagles. Also had a chance to meet Arthur (MS gang). I think I saw ginl too. Were you the one with a jrt, bf quite tall?

Also, she seem to always look at you for the next command. Sigh Frown ! I wish Bodhi was like that. Bodhi just cannot keep her nose off the ground. My instructor kept telling me to shout out my command because Bodhi is ALWAYS distracted. Sometimes, I get embarassed shouting so loud but what to do Blush????? Hi Snoopydog,

It was really nice meeting you and Bodhi too.. As for training, snuffy doesn't perform all the time one, she has her mood swing from time to time. When she listen, she is good. But at times when she choose not to, she will totally ignore me Crazy. It will always help for us to have some treats in the pocket, especially for beagles. And never feed them too full before the training, the best is leave them to be slightly hungry as they are more attentive when they are hungry.

For the sniffing part, snuffy sniff the ground all the time too. That is just beagle, nothing much we could do about it.

So, if I can fully recover in time, then I'd love to bring Bodhi to the Padang this sunday. If not, then I'll probably see you guys the following week or event at the next KK gathering.

Hi Cowcow,

Don't worry about the humping behavior coco has, it is not "fat how" as you said, it is only that she is showing the sign of dominant and we should not encourage it. Snuffy was like that too when she was about that age last time..

The turning over position (from the photo) is called submission. She does that when she did something wrong maybe telling you "I know I am wrong, don't be mad at me" Sly Beagles are very intelligent dog.

Eversince Bodhi was housetrained (pee/poo on newspaper), she has developed a very strange habit. Everytime I bring her out, she wouldn't pee/poo. But the moment she reaches home, she will go straight to her "toilet area" and do her business. Of course when she really cannot tahan anymore, she will poo when we are walking....but very very rare. Hi everyone,

Bodhi is just as bad. Eventhough she pee/poo on newspaper, sometimes she would also play with the newspapers (especially when bored). Lagi kepala sakit Crazy because there'll be pee/poo everywhere !!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, I think I read somewhere in this forum which explains why dogs play with the newspapers. Although we don't realise it, dogs observe everything we do. In this case, they will observe when we lay the newspaper, wrap up the newspaper, throw the newspaper etc. etc. Just like humans, they will think of their loved ones when they are bored. So, they think of us (at least I would like to believe that Sly!!). When they think of us, they think of the things we do i.e. wrap up the newpapers. So, they start playing with the newspapers because the dog associate the newspapers with their owners !!! See ?

hound group forum been quiet for some while loh! everybody been so busy??Smile

I come accross many people asking me how is coco's appetite, why why why? is beagle very choosy in food?

my dog food almost finish already, any good suggestion? till now i still don't know why those Alpho, Padegree is so cheap yet those eukanuba so expensive?Crazy some told me 1 cup eukanuba = 3 cup padegree, but don't seem so mah, coz 1 cup eukanuba is really not enough.

most of my "normal" friend normally they use padegree + some human rice + chicken meat. but why those "special" friend normally use branded dog food? (special = those who keep pure breed doggie)

please help!!! need to buy new food in 2 days time!

I don't have a Beagle.... YET! I REALLY want one, I jsut have to convince my mom that they're NOT impossible to train. My Dad already agrees that beagles are great dogs, he had 5 himself in his childhood Shocked but I just have to get my mom to agree. I read a lot about Beagles though, they seem like the BEST dogs EVER! Blush

hi julie!
from new york? wow! very far place. But i think beagle should be quite famous in US, right? not like in Malaysia, I never seen any beagle on road before. Should be rare? Most people here keep golden retrieval or labrador. Smile

I should admit that beagle is a bit too playful. sometimes aggresive (she won bite) when you try to play with her. In another words, she just being too rude, no manners. she likes strangers more than me. should be suitable for children i think.

maybe golden are easier to train then? Hmm, maybe you can have a look at adult dog first (as for me, i never seen a adult beagle before when first i adopt coco). because, they are a bit... look not that kind of smart... Sly maybe i just being touch by her puppy look. hahaha!

hope ur mom would agree to keep one loh!

I don't know how popular Beagles are here, but I suppose it is pretty popular, I mean a lot of my friends think they're adorable. Oh and the Beagle in your icon is so cute! Labradors are very popular here, probably the most popular dog! Beagles are often used for rabbit hunting, but I just want a dog that I can play with and stuff. I don't mind if it likes attention; in fact, I want a dog that likes being cuddled. I read a lot about Beagles, so I know what to feed them (and what NOT to feed them) and about their behavior and stuff. But I might have to wait until Spring (it's winter here) until I can get a Beagle Frown i don't know if I can wait that long, when thinking about a dog in January, March seems a million years away! But oh well, as long as I can get a dog, i'll wait Smile Anything for a best friend, right? And a pet is the best friend you can have Blush.

Hi KBS,

Archie was soo cute Smile. Can't wait to see him again. For a 4-mth-old pup, he was remarkably well behaved...and off leash too! Wow ! So, is Snuffy all clean from the mud now? I'm sure you gave her a good scrubbing when you got home Wink! At first, it must've been quite alarming for you as she ran off into the woods. But when she appeared all muddy, you must'vebeen relieved. Ahhh...beagles...& the things they do! Crazy As I said in another thread...don't know whether to laugh or cry! See you soon.

Hi kbs,

I'm sure it's possible but not easy at all. Otherwise how can those hunting packs go running about and return to their owners at the end of the day ?? I often wonder ???? . Maybe it's easier in farms and huge private estates we see on TV. But in urban PJ, fat chance Unsure! Also, I think it's all in the mind. Those hunting beagles we see on TV probably are so used to it since young and the owners take for granted that they'll return. If they don't they still have about 10-20 more. So, no worries Tongue. But to us, they are our pampered + beloved pooches and our hearts drop the moment we see them dash off into the unknown Shocked.

Hi Snoopydog,

It is nice to know that Archie and Bodhi are now classmate Smile..

I can already foresee a tough road ahead for me to train Archie, as he really doesn't like being leash. I orginally enrolled for puppy class, but I don't know why they put Archie in the basic class. Anyway, I have no complaint as the trainer is apparently very good with beagles.

Hi kbs,

Yeah, I'm really looking forward next week's class Cool. It'll be fun with 3 beagles in the group. From first impression, the trainer sounds good...also very friendly and approachable. That's what I really look for in a trainer because he/she can either demoralise you Frown or motivate you Smile. My last trainer during puppy class was also very good. Actually, I had asked to switch to pre-novice during the registration. After all, puppy class is almost the same as Basic (that's what I understand). But having discussed with my wife, we decided Bodhi may not be ready for pre-novice yet (or rather the human owners are not ready! WinkWink)...simply because Bodhi's just not calm enough. I think we were lucky to pass CGC! So we decided to build a stronger foundation first before moving on...most importantly, let Bodhi enjoy training! You know beagles-lah! Once they don't like it, sorry-lah Crazy!

Re: [dick] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi dick,

Keeping a beagle in a condo may be a bit tricky because Beagles can be quite vocal. Mine barks everytime I scold her or when she's playing by herself, also when visitors come. They can also howl if they are bored...and that can be quite LOUD. If they were human, they would turn out to be very, very talkative Wink. So, unless you have very accomodating neighbours, you have to carefully consider the noise factor. I read somewhere that someone actually "soundproofed" his entire apartment so that his dogs won't disturb his neighbours (not beagles though). If you're still interested, I saw 2 beagle puppies at the petshop in SS2 recently. Check it out if you like. Good luck!

Hi Dick,

When I first got snuffy, I was staying in a condo as well.. She was okay during puppyhood, but it was totally a different story when she grew bigger.. They hate to be alone, everytime I am out to work in the morning, she will howl/bark and make sure her complaint can reach the whole neigbourhood..Crazy

Either being very vocal, as snoopydog mentioned, and they can be very destructive as well when left alone. When she was about a year old, she will bark at anything by the door, whether ppl passing by, neighbour coming back.. Besides the vocal part, to sneak a dog in/out is not fun living in a condo.. I felt like a thief or something, running away from the Polis everytime I bring snuffy out for walk/car ride. I have to make sure nobody is outside/in the lift and run quickly when approached the lower ground.

So, last year I decided to move out from the condo and move to a house instead.. for snuffy..

As for purchasing of beagle pups, why not try to call MKA, they have a list of breeders that has beagle for sale normally and the price are normally cheaper than the pet shop.

KBS

Hi Coco,

What you can do:

1. Check their skin/fur regularly, like once in two days or so, monitor them closely especially when they start to scratch unnecessarily. Sometimes flea are not noticeable by our bare eyes, but start to wary when you see some dried blook scar on their skin (like mosquito bite)

2. Do bath them with anti-flea shampoo.

If kena flea already:

1. You can use flea-collar, flea-drips, or just bath them with flea-shampoo.

Hi cowcow,

Tick collars are poisonous. So, you have to use it with CAUTION. Maybe, you can put it on when you bring coco out for walks alone, but if there's going to be other dogs around, then I would suggest you don't use it because other dogs might accidently chew on it when they are playing with Coco.

Eventhough beagle hair is short, they are actually quite thick. So, there's still plenty of hiding places for ticks and mites (e.g. ears, paws etc). There won't be a 100% solution. So you just have to manually check Coco's body every now and then to make sure. Not only that, you have to make sure your compound is clean too.

Re: [cowcow] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Cowcow,

It is not recommended to use tick collar if ur dog has no flea. And snoopydog is right, try not to use it on a puppy unless really really necessary. Do a routine check on coco skin/hair, or you can buy a type of comb specificly to comb out the flea. Then you can check all the time if there are fleas on our doggy.

Any dogs whether short hair or long hair is prone to have fleas if we let them outdoor more. So, a constant check is still the best precaution. I bath my doggy with anti-flea shampoo at least once in a month, and for normal bathing, I do it every week for them.

Hi cowcow,

All hounds have a natural "hound" smell. But if they roll themselves in something dirty, then they can get really smelly. Once I caught Bodhi rubbing his head and body on the ground. When I looked closer, it was a dead lizard (or something dead-lah!). Yucks! So, Coco might have rubbed herself on something like that. You should also make sure you dry Coco properly if she ever gets wet (playing, rain etc). If not, their body will smell funny after that. But if you are referring to the daily smell, then I think that's normal. In fact, I quite like the smell Crazy. Crazy, huh?

The walk was really fun last Tuesday. We had 4 beagles that day.. Snuffy was so excited with the horse and howling non-stop on most of her walk.

I've visited MKA site but I would like to know more about the traning class from you guys since your pets are all in there :) How long does the traning lasts every session and is it once a week? Do I have to enroll seperately for each class , such as Novice, Pre-novice or she will progress from one to another automatically? Each course cost RM100 ? When should I start enrolling Snowy since now she is just 2 1/2 months old and just got her second injection.

Re: Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello everyone. My name is Lindsey and I recently purchased a Beagle from a pet store about 4 weeks ago. She's almost 4 months old and I love her very much but she's really causing me A LOT OF STRESS. She whines all the time. She whines on her teather outside, she whines in her crate, and sometimes she just whines to whine. I know she wants attention, but as a university student I can't giver her attention 24/7. If she isn't whining while I'm trying to do something she's chewing something up, anything she can get her little mouth on. I love her so much, and I don't want to give her away. What am I supposed to do? I try to ignore her, but she has some vocals. I also always make sure she has had enough to eat, and that she doesn't need to go potty, but she's still a little demon. Will this pass?

Hi Lilly,

Welcome to the beagle world.
Bealges are very active dog and they make lots of noise when they are left alone, when they are bored etc. They especially hate it if they are left in a crate for long hours. It is in their nature to roam around and if they are kept in enclosed area they are dead bored Crazy. But I understand your busy schedule.
Here's a few things to try out....

(1)Try getting your dog lots of chew toys to keep her busy. A 'KONG' staff with food will do great to keep her busy trying to get the food out.

(2) When ever you are free take her out for long walks or play with her a game that will enable her to take up lots of her energy.

Hope this helps.

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Carmine,

In answer to your queries...
  1. Classes are held once a week (Sundays) and lasts about 1 hour (either 4-5pm, or 5-6pm). There are approx. 10 lessons altogether (i.e. 10 weeks)
  2. Once you have completed all 10 lessons, it's up to you whether you want to enrol for the next 10 classes (more advanced). That will be another RM100.
  3. You can start to enrol Snowy for puppy classes now. The next intake is sometime in June (I think). By then, Snowy should have gotten all her jabs already. Puppy classes are for dogs between 3-6 mths old.

Good luck Smile.

TohCS, thank you so much for your reply! I think I'll go buy her some more chew toys since she seems to get bored of her old ones fast. Other than that we go for walks, play etc. seems like all the time Crazy so getting her pooped isn't always the problem. Hopefully SOMEDAY she'll get used to mommy being away for 2 or 3 hours sometimes Laugh, but for now I'll just be patient. PS. you have a really cute doggy! As soon as I can I'll put my dog's picture up here. I actually have another question though. Lilly is about 4 months old and she only weighs about 9 or 10 lbs. She's TINY, and her groomer/future obediance teacher commented on how small she is for a beagle. Is that normal for a beagle? Thanks again for your reply! Sly

Hi Lilly,

When Bodhi was around 4mths old, she was quite small for her age too. She only weighed slightly more than 5 kg (around 11lbs). I thought she would never grow. My vet suggested that I feed her with milk and eggs (in addition to her normal diet), to accelerate her growth rate....and it worked. Having said that, I think it's all in the genes. Bodhi's mum was quite small sized too. So, I guess she took after her. Bodhi is nearing 9 mths-old now and weighs around 11 kgs. A full grown Beagle weighs between 10-15 kgs (i.e. 22 - 33 lbs). Good luck Smile.

Eventually i bought lots lots of kibbles at the pet show last week. now i start worrying. if give her wet food, she would jump, roll, shake hand. without that, she just look at me and walk away. when i walk away, she's like "force" to eat like that. I see already also felt bit bit guilty.... Pirate

now coco is at 10KG. but ratio a bit different from bodhi. is head very small and body very big. hmmm????

Hi cowcow,

Haven't seen coco for some time already. She must've grown quite a lot because 10kg is quite heavy for a small dog Shocked (Coco must be around 6 mths-old????). Actually, don't worry about her figure now. Most important is she eats well and grow well Smile. Only when she reaches 10-12mths, then you should start to convert her puppy fat into muscles (by lots of exercise). You should also make sure that she doesn't get overweight coz it's not healthy and bad for her backFrown. That's what my vet told me. So, until then let her eat and grow as much as she can. Wink

Today she vomitted her food in the morning. But she seems healthy and can run and jump and bite as usual. I wonder why sometimes she will vomit.

Re: [carmine] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Carmine,

Puppy kindergarten is meant to "introduce" the young pups to the idea of training. It's not so strict compared to Basic, Pre-novice and so on. Merely to socialise and expose your puppy to people & other dogs. But you still learn enough for Snowy sit for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, and with some luck, pass it too Wink! I don't think it's a good idea to join pre-novice without any prior basic training...unless of course you have trained Snowy quite well at home already. Anyway, it's up to you. But personally, I think there's no rush. Take it step by step. Let Snowy enjoy the basic stuff first before subjecting her to the rigorous advance training. Also, you must consider whether you have enough time to practice. If not, then it's better to start with the easy stuff first because it's no use going for pre-novice classes once a week and expect your puppy to do wonders.

I'm not too sure about the vomitting part. Maybe other members can help you out. Actually Bodhi vomits occasionally as well. But that's because she eats all sorts of things in the garden and that upsets her stomach. For example, she vomitted pieces of what appears to be leaves. But after that, she was ok and ate her dinner as usual.Smile

Hi Carmine,

There are three symptoms ur dog might face in the car.

1. No problem Smile

2. Car Sickness - Vommit (If is car sickness, I would recommend that for long journey, do more frequent stops and don't drive too fast or do sudden corner)

3. Phobia - Drooling and Vommit (let the dog accomodate the car as an interesting place by bringing them out more often, and always accomplish with a tasty treats or toys they love, always make the journey short in the beginning and slowly if shown improvement, increase the journey)

Hi fellow beaglers,

Just wander if how many wil be keen for a Beagle Fest ? I was thinking we can rent YWCA hall (it cost RM100 for 3 hours minimum). We can all then share the cost.eg if there are 10 of us we pay only RM10.00 each.
We can organise agility, games etc for our beagles. With this place we can have an enclosed hall so our beagles's nose wont carry them away.
However if anyone else knows of aother enclosed area let us know .
It is seldom we get a chance to let our beagles run free . I have one worry though....u think things can get out of control with 10 beagles or more off leash?

Just an idea....feedbacks please...

Many doggie cheers,

Hi Cheng See,

Beagle Fest? Sounds interesting Cool. I can just imagine the owners shouting at the top of our voices and the beagles just go on playing, ignoring us Crazy. Yes, I'd be interested. Alternatively, we can have it at someone's house with a big enough garden (anyone kind enough Wink?). Judging from the postings so far, I don't think there are that many beaglers in this forum.

Any other thoughts?

hello,

when ur beagle is a puppy feed 3 times in small portion a day. once grow big already, can feed once a day or twice in small portion. it is all up to you. and yes! you can play jog run with them. bath them when u think it is necessary, when smelly lar. it is advisable to feed them only dog food like kibbles not human food or else u will have trouble feeding them kibbles in the future. Beagle is a dog with character. he has attitude. haha or should i say, you fren is as stubborn as a beagle..haha..beagle is a very smart dog. but training might be a bit tougher because hey are quite stubborn at times. once training is complete, you'll have a loyal companion for life. they are very affectionate dogs. like being sayang and pampered. always wants attention. beagles are outgoing dogs likes to roam around, so you won;t have trouble playing with ur beagle outside. tell your friend that if beagle is stupid then why did the police use them to detect cocaine in airports around the world. as everyone has said, all dogs are smart it is the stupidity of the owner that makes the dog looks dumb....haha...

Hi Babymoon,

As many beagle owners will tell, beagles are one of the greatest companion. They are extremely intelligent.

They are a dog with little fear and a BIG heart! Sure beagles can be trained. Every breed have different temperament . Beagles are hound dogs and breed to hunt. Whether a beagle can be trained or not depends a lot on how they are trained. My beagle is able to do lots of tricks that I am proud off. Wink. Wanna know how I train my beagle? Will let you know when we have a chance to meet.

Meanwhile do keep reading and finding out more about beagles from the right people.

Hi,

Looking for a beagle for free?? Hmmmm.....it's hard but it's not impossible !! haha.....You just gotta know the right person !! I have a female beagle at 5 months old now and i plan to breed her later when she is 16 months.......haha.....so i bet u cant wait until then.....nevetheless.....i know a good breeder with many champion beagles......he has two litters of pups coming to Earth this late december........i am not sure he has all ready buyers for his puppies already or not.......sometimes he has a few left with no buyers......he is expecting 9 puppies this time......well....you can be lucky this time like me......he did give me a female puppy for free after all.......I only knew him online for 3 months and there.....bang.......i got my pretty championline beagle girl........So good luck to you yeah......i will give u his email so u can try to contact him but obviously pls be smart la when u want something free from ppl......do approach him nicely and dont tell him i suggested this idea to you or he will kill me and u wont get ur beagle for free and i will haunt after you as a ghost.......haha ...LOL...........if he doesnt feel like giving u free......try to convince him for a better price after u get to know him better......even if u cant get a puppy this time around ...u might still be able to get one later from him cos he mates his beagles several times around in a year and he has so many at home to breed from....so bet on your luck but try not to be greedy and dont ask the whole kampung to come ask for free beagles from him cos it's not nice at all....

here is how it will go...........SMS to me 0123173071 and i shall tell you his email.....cos i dont want the whole world to bother him asking for free beagles........perhaps this is the one and only opportunity...haha

Hi babymoon,

i hope u understood well what i wrote to you in that email and know exactly what to do......just a reminder.....be really careful when u communicate with him and dont tell him what i told you or u will be in trouble and end up with no chances...haha......

Here is another way to get a cheap puppy......go to any pet shops anywhere and look for those beagles that are above 4 months.....usually the pet shop will bring down the price when they grow bigger cos they cant keep them there anymore so they want it to be sold asap.......i saw one really nice lemon white male in Jalan Petaling,KL last few months sold for RM680 only at 5 months old.....it's really a good deal cos that puppy looked excellent....only that he was bigger and u couldnt raise from young....but imagine if the dog is going to be with you for another 12 years or more.....what have u got to lose for that few months.??....hehe....The younger the beagle the more expensive it could be.....cos ppl always want a puppy from young and as they grow bigger they become less expensive.....

OR

You can call this lady Lilian who stays in Tmn Cuepacs,Cheras KL. She sells beagles for approx. RM1000...the sire is a champion according to her and Nicole said that that puppy she got from her is nice and cute.....so mayb u can try there.....call her 016-2977632 and negotiate for a better price.....all u need to do is just come down KL to get ur puppy that's it......she still has a few puppies left now......good luck

Re: [wais81] Beagle's owners section [In reply to] Can't Post

  1. I believe it is now time for me to speak and clarify matters.

I am unhappy with comments made by Ohmybeagle. You have clearly gone overboard.I will not need to clear up this mess.

Your tan and white female beagle was not given to you for free. What you failed to notify everyone is that she came to you with a breeding contract. She is to return to her original breeder when she is ready to have a litter in which the litter will belong and be registered under the original owners prefix. So please dont go around telling everyone you got her for free.

Secondly, it is not nice to tell everyone how to scheme to get a "free beagle." from someone who generously offered you a dog.It feels like I am being backstabbed even though your initial intent was to help the poor lady.

Most professional breeders are not interested in selling their pups at top price and would much prefer their dogs to have a good home and be cared for optimally as all dogs should be.And hence sometimes some dogs are given away or placed in pet homes.Given away on contract basis or leased.Consider yourself lucky that you got a good beagle. It's not everyday that the sun shines on you.And if you keep going on writing such things openly in the internet one day the sun will not shine over your side anymore. This is a public forum. Many things should have been discussed privately.Use your discression. Some issues that involve other people should not be openly discussed.Especially if names and also addresses are to be made public, and worst still I even see bad comments about people and their handphone number all over the place. The world doesnt belong to you alone my friend.

I believe there are some other points I have to clariry,I offered the pup to you Ohmybeagle only after I knew you were someone who could accept a tan and white beagle. As you know the world of the tan and white beagle isnt as prettily made out as for the tricolour beagle here in Malaysia. You are what I felt a responsible owner.I dont doubt and I still believe that you are a very responsible dog owner and you care for your dogs with utmost love and affection and feed them the best.I assessed your background and your capability to care for the pup before I surrendered her to you.But I didnt expect this in return.

I do not breed my beagles several times around in a year as you have written.Wrong choice of words. To the experienced breeder and ethical breeders this is a remark we simply deplore.I breed my beagles ethically. They are rested and desexed when they are not found suitable for breeding. And we breed only show quality bitches. They are rested properly, fed the best of meats and also come from top bloodlines. No less is required. They are all not overbred and you can check with the if you wish as they keep complete records of each bitch bred. Our kennel is not a puppy mill and I believe many people out there know this.In fact we select and ponder over each mating we do over many months.

We do not have many beagles to breed from.We only have 3 bitches at the moment. One of which is now retired and desexed. We also have a yearling who is still showing. And a Grand Champion bitch who will be leaving to show in the Philippines shortly. So your statement is inaccurate.

I suggest you stop dabbling with petshops and pet agents..Some of them will get upset with you. It's somebody elses rice bowl. What they do is their business.I also suggest you stop writing names and addresses openly. The list will filter out URL.But I am surprised they didnt with names of some people you have mentioned.

No doubt not many people really know who you are but it's a small world.Word gets around.Needless to say I am clearly very upset with what you have said and think it is very unbecoming of someone like you.Turning on the person who gave you a dog and painting an incorrect picture.... you need to be reprimanded.

I am sorry to make this public on the list but you didnt think twice before you wrote your posts.Hopefully after reading this you will feel a little of what I have felt.

Hi everyone,

I am here to rectify a big mess i have gotten myself into. I hereby apologise that it was my stupidity to involve names and personal privacy unnecessarily in this matter. I utterly regret for what i have done along with the damages imposed on those involved and obviously it's an utmost no-brainer for me. I would like to withdraw every statements i made on the last few posts in response to user "Babymoon". I hereby declare all the mentioned statements are inaccurate and judgemental. I would like to express my biggest apology to all parties involved especially the breeder i was referring to. I hope he accepts my apology. All users who are reading those posts may ignore them for that they're absolutely misleading and they came from a naive mind.

Mr webmaster i hope u are reading this and i hope u can do me something good to remove those posts that i have up there. Your help is very much appreciated. I do not wish these misleading info to poison everyone in this forum especially when those are very judgemental opinions. Thank You Mr Webmaster.

Lastly, I would like to apologise to every users in this Houndgroup forum for providing such wrongful information and causing bad influences around. I will no longer be present in this forum in the future to show my remorse. I hope that everyone here will only accept sincere and useful info from another party and reject any harmful comments and suggestions like those i wrote. I wish to be removed from the list forever Mr Webmaster so that all the bad will vanish along with my absence. Good Bye folks......have a good time here.....

p/s: pertaining to Jonathan's comment about me mentioning names of an unethical pet agent,I still stubbornly withhold my standing on this. I reckon I have every right to do everyone here something good as a reminder not to fall for the same con case. God will know what to do with that agent who conned me with full intention and i am not afraid to call in her name in front of God. Anyone disagree with my good will that we should eradicate these harmful elements in the world of dog lovers?? I welcome that agent to come back to me for defamation but all she will earn is huge shame for herself. And for jon's info, cheating and conning is not a way to earn one's feeding rice bowl especially it's done deliberately with little ethics or whatsoever

Hey bro,

I think virtually no one will give u a free beagle today la as they can sell for at least RM1300 for one with MKA Cert. However like mentioned u can try playing some friendship card if u do know someone with a female beagle carrying a litter or prebook it with a breeder friend if he/she has any unsold stock la.

My bitch will take at least 12 more months before she is suitable for breeding. Well i dont mind to reserve you one if i happen to get a good number of pups la.......that's if u still need one la. I only offer those who really deserves it. So it will be some time b4 that happens......

Meanwhile i do know a breeder in Cheras who sells a champline pup for RM1000 only. Let me know if u can afford that price or not.
