There is no known cure for a soft temperament, all you can do is try manage it.
That said there is a right way & a wrong way to do introductions. As often as not it is done the wrong way causing the fear reaction to be intensified. What I'd do is create an association between the noise & something that the dog likes. This is called "counter-conditioning" or "re-conditioning".
